Don't be that guy.....

I thought I'd put this in the general forums since he was in a Polaris. Don't be the guy who throws your beer cans on the ground. Part of the enjoyment of riding is seeing nature without trash on the ground. If you are so useless that you can't pack a Walmart sack to put your cans in then find another hobby where all you have to do is sit in your house and throw cans on the floor.

It takes a real bonehead to go to another man's land to ride and then throw cans on the ground.

Don't be this type of useless, no good, worthless, lazy, no count who does this.

That is all.

One mans trash is another mans treasure. Not sure what aluminum cans are going for these days but I know a few that love seeing cans on the trails . In their words “ Just money laying around “

But yeah, litterbugs aren’t cool.

I see lots of water bottles, Mountain Dew cans and candy wrappers on the trails too. Broken winch lines. Parts of Jeep and RZR body panels. Hats. Gloves. Chew cans. And of course tons and tons of cigarette butts. But let’s just blame the beer drinkers. They always get the blame anyhow. Lol.

For the record I hate litter. Everyone in my group carry’s a large bag or a container for any and all litter we create.

Now for an unpopular, but extremely true piece of info..... Most of the parks with bad beer can litter are parks that “don’t allow” alcohol. Since we all know those that want to drink will sneak it in regardless of the rules, they just toss em when they are empty instead of risking getting caught with a half dozen empty cans. So it’s just one of those things.

I would not say that's true. Brimstone is hailed as the Mecca for trail drinkers because it's private property and it's legal. It has one of the worst beer can problems I've ever seen. Where as Windrock, where it's illegal, people still throw cans out but it's not the extent it exists at Brimstone.

As for making them pick it up...seeing a 6'8" guy open carrying a 44 mag usually makes for a more cordial interaction. But a lot of it is how you confront them. Anyone in law enforcement will know what I'm talking about. It's not about a fight but rather changing their behavior.

Amen.

Much as I would like to pick up their trash and toss it back in their vehicle and say "you forgot something!!!!!"

A cool head with a level headed explanation of why riding areas get shut down hopefully can get results. Maybe even share a cold one (or 2) while discussing the problem. Show bubba how to empty the can, crush it and put it in a trash bag. Kick tires, swap stories, tell lies and save our riding areas.

Last person I would want to deal with is bubba who is strapping a widow maker and wants to put a bullet in me because he threw trash all over the trail. I'd be dead and my next of kin would get to sit in court watching bubba sentenced to murder 1 or 2. Then, my next of kin gets to civilly sue bubba and his next of kin for everything they own for the rest of their lives.

If litter is good enough for the top of Mt. Everest, its good enough anywhere!

Litter bugs are everywhere. Just pack your own out plus some extra. (Except Everest)

This weekend at Glamis, went to Olds Hill early in the morning and was surprised by the trash left from the night before, especially for an off weekend. There was one spot with a 5 quart jug of used motor oil with no lid dumped over on it's side and about 20 Coors Light cans around it along with other trash. Blows me away the stupidity of people. Those same people would be the first to cry when their riding area gets closed down.

I don't like litter out there of any kind but the biggest problem is dudes in the big stupid 4x4s going out and dumping TVs, beds and boats and RVs in the desert. Yes boats and RVs. The occasional bud light can isn't the problem here and it isn't SXS drivers. It's idiots dumping whole houses worth of crap in the desert.

I've noticed that riding around Bull Head. I'll pick up cans and stuff but boats jeez. Stay the Trail here in Colorado sponsors cleanup rides and I have loaded bed frames and mini refrigeratores in the past. I know Best in the Desert does a cleanup as well usually before a race. It's cool to be part of.

This is awesome. We'll probably kick off another Clean Up Challenge this year. I'll make sure we get it going again.
