Looking to do a performance build on my 2015 XP1000 4 that is used for mostly 4,500' & higher elevation mountain/desert riding. I need to do a rebuild on this motor anyway, so I figured I would build it to produce more HP while I'm at it. I'm going to have the head rebuilt and ported, so now I'm looking at other power adders. There is very little information available on doing N/A builds so I thought I would reach out to the RZR community to pick your brains. Below are some of the options I'm looking at possibly doing:
  • 1100cc...ish Bib Bore Kit (not so big I have to install 'offset rods')?
  • 11.5:1 or 12:1 compression ratio w/ 91 octane fuel?
  • Cams?
  • Do's/Don'ts?
Thanks!!

I was really hoping for more info.:cautious: I guess everyone just jumps to a turbo. I know the turbos run well and are cheaper to make good power, but they do lack bottom-end as well as the usual turbo-lag. I do plan to add another car to my collection in a few years and it will be a turbo and be much wider. In the meantime, I think a rig with more grunt in the bottom and mid range with a more responsive snap would be dang fun, especially in the mountains.😁

I will admit that they are fairly responsive but there is still lag when working in the lower RPM range. The unfortunate turbo side effect... I have thought about doing an engine swap with my supercharged APEX motor pushing around 250hp. I just don't think the rest of the rig would hold up to that kind of instant torque and hard hitting power.

I'm curious to see what you end up doing and how much it will end up costing.

I think you have been smoking something if you think the turbos have too much lag and aren't good enough.

You ride desert and mountains, i don't understand your thinking.

Maybe you need to change your gearing if you want more bottom end. Polsris is geared too high anyway, especially if you are running larger tires.

I'm definitely interested as i wish I had a turbo or supercharger on mine. I can have a good qtr mile head start floored and my buddies turbo will catch me in a matter of seconds

I'm excited as well as a bit nervous to see how this project turns out. Sure hope it's not a total waste of money upgrading the cams, etc. If the cylinder isn't trashed I will probably not do the big bore and just do the headwork as everyone seems to agree that is where the most performance gain can be had.

Now don't get me wrong. I've never said turbos "have too much lag nor are they good enough". I only stated that they do have lag. Heck, if I didn't have to do a complete rebuild of the motor I wouldn't be going this route. I would just sell this one and buy a new one with a turbo, lol.

With that being said, I'm not ready yet to drop $35K on a new top of the line SxS. Once the motor is rebuilt, this rig should serve me just fine for the next 3-5 years.
