Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. I just picked up a 2016 matte sunset red XP turbo brand new from a dealership here in Utah. Before my new ride I owned a 2014 XP 1000. Loved it zero issues. My question is did i make a mistake buying the new turbo? When I read through this XP turbo section I see quite a bit of threads that are about problems with the turbo. Overheating, clutch, axles popping out ect. Should i have waited for the 2017 turbos hoping they have the bugs worked out? I havent had a chance to get mine out yet cause of the snow here so it has zero miles on it. I dont know if these machines are hit and miss with problems or what but i am a little nervous for my first ride. I mainly ride mountains and the dunes. The dunes has me the most nervous with the overheating issue. Dont mean to be negative but when i read all the issues it concerns me a bit. Thanks.

Well...
Basically yes. It is a high wear item after all.
Especially if you put it through the torture of repeated hill climbs with factory weights and helix :rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

My personal experience with three RZRs, one of which I own, the second is my dad's, third is a riding buddy, all three are bad to the bone no problems.

Don't drive it as if it were a trophy truck, maybe take a little time to actually learn how the belt and clutch work together and why people fry them and I bet you have nothing but fun :)

oh and pics or it didn't happen dude! Show us the new ride!

We bought our Turbo and have ridden in the ozarks in Missouri, the desert in Arizona and now on our second Glamis trip. We have owned a 2011S, a 2012 xp900 , a 2014 xp1000 and now the 2016 Turbo. The Turbo is by far the best RZR yet. It is a great all around machine. Tons of power and super smooth. I have seen temps up to 2014 today in the dunes with temps in the upper 80's but that was in the big dunes with lots of long climbs and long runs at a pretty good pace. Slow down just a bit and the temps drop right back down and cycle between 194 and 204. Whenever we stop I let it run till the fan cuts off and always let it warm up to at least 100 or so before we leave out letting the oil get up to temp. We have about 800 miles on it so far with zero issues. Like anything else there will be a small percentage of machines that will have problems but that is the exception. keep the maintenance up and you should be fine.

Just remember to take this forum with a grain of salt. Some guys would have you believe their RZR broke while driving Grandma to church last Sunday. It wasn't something like a nose-down power on landing screw-up. You'll find that problems are really magnified to the point that you'd think every other RZR is experiencing it. I'm not saying that the people on this forum aren't having issues, I'm saying their breakage more often than not is the exception, not the norm. Enjoy your new RZR and do your maintenance and I'll bet you'll have a good time.

This is my first Razor/ SXS, but I absolutely love driving it. The power is amazing, suspension is better than I could of imagined.

Other than my front diff self destructing on my first trip and the front/ drivers side axle popping out every trip so far, I have ZERO complaints. Lol

Hopefully Polaris will figure out a solution for the axle situation as the new front diff seems to be working just fine. It really is an amazing machine.....

I Highly suggest getting an extended warranty, if you haven't already bought one. Peace of mind in case you get one of the ones with issues.

I got my Turbo from the dealership you can say I broke the engine (drove only 15 Miles :)) and immediately ran it hard for 250 miles in a weekend.. We climbed dunes almost 50% of the time and they were HUGE ones... Also, another Turbo was with me in that trip too.

We experienced no issues at all and both worked flawlessly... Enjoy your new rzr my friend...

If you listen to everything written verbatim, you might want to just leave your RZR at the dealership. What is nice about the forum, is people can share issues they're experiencing. It gives you a heads up on things to look for, and possibly prevent from happening. From what I understand about the heating issues on the XPT, it's caused by people doing a hard climb, then simply turning off the engine without letting it cool first.

With all new models, there's two ways to look at them. One way is for the people wanting bragging rights for the latest greatest offerings. The other is the people that don't want to be a guinea pig for a new model that needs unknown improvements.

Regardless of which one is you, go enjoy your RZR.

P.S. You'll find the three things guys exaggerate about are: 1) How much oil his truck uses, 2) The size of his Johnson, and 3) How many miles he gets from the belt on his RZR...! :)

XPT here and 0 issues with it. Best machine I have owned so far. I drive it like I stole it and have been VERY HAPPY with it.

The information on this forum is very helpful. Dont read it and think negative about it. Just read it and be aware of what to look for and what to keep an eye on. There are many folks out there that have 0 issues.

Congrats on the new turbo, if you take care of them they run fine, make sure you do your maintenance and oil changes and have fun. Most of the issues with any of the rzrs' not just the turbo, is common sense , if it's 100 deg out don't go on massive hill climbs for the next hour, give it a break let the belt and sheaves cool down, they do get hot after a hard hill climb, give it a break, if it's really hot I always add some 100 octane unleaded as to not plug up the 02 sensor specially on a turbo it keeps the cylinder temps cooler which keeps the engine cooler, watch your temps don't let them continue to climb without a cooldown, some, riders have no clue and just cook the engine. My company does boosted engines , the worst thing you can do to any boosted engine is overheat it or run it lean, the best thing you can do for it is add some higer octane specially in the hot weather, it won't hurt it at all, out of the box the rzrxpt is a great ride have fun:ride:

You definitely did not make a mistake, the XPT is a blast. Follow the advice above, it's all pretty simple stuff...so relax and have some fun! You can't worry about breaking the thing every time you ride, failures happen, but not the end of the world. IMHO, the fun factor FAR outweighs the maintenance.

I can understand at first view of the XPT thread that it looks like these things have massive issues! Mostly it's the far and few that have issues or are talking about concerns. Due to the fact that it's a new model the thread starts out more like a problem board with Questions and answers.

I know that I'm extremely happy with the machine, and I haven't had anything go wrong with it yet, I've had "concerns" but found out that it was just me being paranoid by listening and wondering what that noise / bump I hit was... Enjoy the new rig! they are a blast!

Congrats on your new Turbo. Just a word of caution, they do seem to be a little fragile? Mine snapped in half on the first trip. Ya weird huh? On the next trip the front wheels all popped off? Ok, I may have stopped too fast at the first hole. Wasn't expecting a yard sale when I woke up? Flung my new clubs out all over too. As mentioned, its not a Trophy Truck. Drive it like a "Golf Cart" and you'll be fine.

Have fun with your new Toy! Always wear your seat belts between holes.

PS- Start saving up for an STM clutch.

I took my XP Turbo on its first ride yesterday. It was a group ride with 22 machines that lasted about 4 1/2 hours. No problems with the XPT, but then I didn't really expect any problems either. The interesting part about the ride though, was that out of 22 machines we had 1 Can Am, 1 Arctic Cat, and 20 Polaris machines. There were about three Polaris ATVs, and all the rest were UTVs. There were no problems from any of them. Think about that, 17 Polaris UTVs, and no problems. If you read these forums you would think it was the other way around, and that if there were 1 Polaris on a ride with 15 Honda's or Yamaha's, that the 1 Polaris would certainly have a problem and need towed back to camp. Don't get too worried about the carnage reports on these forums, because there is usually a good reason for it, that you aren't hearing about.
