Last week look down and saw that my rear inner cv boot had grease on it but never saw a hole. Well today I ran down the road and it seems the joint is dry it was clanking prety loud going straight down the road. What do I need to change the boot out do I have to have a special tool? Also have a right rear axle is leaking coming out of the rear diff how hard is that to change?

if the hole let dirt or water in or you ran it so long as to run the joint dry, might as well replace the whole inner joint as it will fail soon and you will be redoing all this again. I did the same thing but caught mine right after it got a hole in it, i replaced the whole rear axal and joints, 200.00. ?Then i put a new boot on the other and now have a spare.

Well i saw some grease on the boot but I never saw a hole and I mean I looked good. But it seems like to me its clicking going straight it normally only does it while turning(brake pads) So I guess Ill have to take it off and see. I was thinking the grease could have came from my grease gun becuase I greased it before i rode that day. what color grease is in the boot. I use a black greyish Komatsu grease on mine.

Hivoltage (wish you guys would list your first name) I repalced my inner boot this past weekend. I had the same situation, grease outside the bood but no appearant hole. I bought a axle kit from erlander Performance and their 16$ tool. worked real well but i had to take apart the outer boot the get to the inner. After I did that I took it too my Tire shop who explained to me that the inner clip was inside the housing so i realy didn't need to take the outer apart. The kit comes with all that is needed(including the grease)

not a bad job, handy tools include paper towels, latex cloves, 1" brass drift punch, banding tool, and a good sized hammer. EPI part#WE13004 @ 15.95 is a good replacement boot and you can get twe for the price of a polaris part #2203547 @ 38.21. hope this is helpful.

I just got a hole in my left rear inner boot and had to use a magnifyning glass to find two tiny holes. By the way, I thought the new boot kit from Polaris was supposed to include a new spring ring for the end of the axle and a new circlip for the CV joint. All I got were two bands, the boot, and a package of CV grease. Am I going to be able to reuse the circlip and spring ring?

I was able to use the small ring but broke the big one getting it off. Used an big hose clamp for now works great.

I am not talking about the band clamps on the boots. The polaris boot kit came with those clamps. I was talking about the circlip for the CV joint itself, and the spring ring that goes on the inboard end of the axle (into the rear differential). I know on other CV's I have destroyed the circlip while removing the CV Joint.

I think it would be a good idea to buy (2) rear oil seals for your r. rear axle. They are only like six bucks.I know someone(lets call him Jim)who replaced theirs and didn't get it started back in even and totally @#$%^&* it up.Making another trip back to dealer sucks.

oh my bad moto Im gonna change my seals in the rear soon myself.

Well the earless type CV band clamp pliers that I ordered from JC Whitney came in today, and all I can say is what a P.O.S.!!! The handles bent together while trying to put the large clamp on the CV boot. Then I thought well I'll try again but squeeze the pliers together with some channel locks to get the ends of the band locked in. Before I knew it one of those narrow ends on the band pliers had cut through the damn band! I can send them back but the damn shipping is more than the tool cost. Does anybody know if a Polaris dealer will sell just a clamp without buying another 37.00 boot kit? By the time this happened it was too late to call a dealer, but online all I can find is the boot kit.

It's easy...IF you read the right page in the service manual!
Jack up rear and support it, remove wheel, axle nut, brake caliper, top A-arm mounting bolt, and pull out & down on bearing carrier to get it off of the axle, then sharply pull out on axle and it should pop right out of the rear differential. The procedure for boot replacement depends on which boot you're replacing. The inner rear you just drive the plunging joint off with a drift & hammer. The outer rear you have to spread the circlip while driving the cv joint off. Then go back in reverse order after the boot replacement.
