I'm guessing it's on the radiator or on the block somewhere. You could probably just disconnect the fan and run power and ground to it through a toggle switch.

You tap into the the orange wire coming for the fan, unless yours is a 2013 or newer. If it is 2013 or newer then you tap into the blue wire. Hope this helps!

 

Can you be a little bit more specific please. I lack electrical prowess. Does anyone have a diagram of this? I can put a relay setup together but would still need a diagram. Any info is appreciated.

 

I just received my fan over ride switch from UTVinc, but haven't installed it yet. I was just telling you what their instructions said. It shouldn't be that hard to figured out, just find the wiring harness going to the fan and find either the orange or blue wire and tap into that wire.

I am not trying to be difficult but why would you recommend splicing into and trying two different wires? That just sounds like a crazy way to go about wiring up something by not knowing which wire it is for sure. You didn't even specify what wire off the relay would go to that orange or blue wire, which ever one it is. It is good your trying to help out but unless you have specific instructions on what wire goes to what I would find it difficult to just start splicing into wires. Please don't take it the wrong way.

 

He is saying the two wires because depending on what year you have is what color the wire coming out of the fan will be. It's no two wires just one

 

anyone know what the color for the wire on the 2012 900xp.-- do u provide positive to the fan or do u provide ground for the fan. just want to be sure because i know polaris does their wiring in differ ways.example the taillights or even how they make the turn signal actually show up on your factory rzr dash. because i only have the manual for the 2011 xp and want to make sure it is the same and if it is i know u would provide 12 positive to the og/bk wire and obviously done thru at least a 30 amp relay using in my opinion 12ga wire but can use smaller gauge wire on the 85 and 86 terminals

 

X2, this is the answer I am looking for as well. I want to do my own switch and relay but just wasn't sure what wires to splice into exactly and also whether they are supposed to be positive or negative.

 

if i splice into something also, i do not u t-tap style connections. Thaose are the worst style of a connection to use.IMO u strip back some of the insulation then solder onto the wire then use liquid electrical tape then regular tape.

 

this is the directions with the utv inc switch

 

i have read those instruction and i believe them to be true- where some might be getting tripped up is on the other side of that connection are the color of the wire coming from the fan which are not shown in the polaris manual. The colors before that connection are black and blue.the black matches with the brown (which is the ground connection) and the blue matches with the orange/black wire which is the positive side

 

so the way i plan on wiring my fan override with a relay is as follows: a fused lead goes to terminal on 30 which is constant power, pin 87 will be attached to the blue wire that comes off the fan(these wires i suggest to be 12ga) pin 85 goes straight to anywhere u can find a good ground. 86 is going to be the control wire and will only get power to it once u flip the switch completing the circuit. you will also need to run 12+ to the switch so once u flip the switch it provide 12+ to pin 86 thus completing the electromagnetic circuit in the relay which will turn the fan on.
I hope this helps others--or i just may have confused you more

oh and if u get a standard 5 pin relay 87a pin will not be used in this situation

switch saying fan override-----20
relay ----------------------10-15
misc connections 5-10
wire 5-10
so as u can see buying it from utv inc does makes sense UNLESS you are like me and already have all these parts in your garage

 

I agree with your price qoutes joemamma, but you forgot to add $40.00 - $50.00 for shipping and customs charges for us guys in Canada.

I was not putting you down. But your rambling on about pin connections and blah blah blah is only going to confuse the leyperson even more along with yourself. If you were as smart with electronics as you claim you would have unplugged your fan started your car and used an ohm meter to know what wire did what. The directions posted were straight forward and simple do not complicate, find your power source hook to relay or inline fuse, hook to switch, hook to positive side of fan, done!

As I said you are doing nothing but confusing people with you talk on Pins and locations most people have no idea what you are talking about. There is no mention of it in the directions in the kit. Most people who are going to attempt to do this without the kit are going to tap into the accessory wire through a relay to a switch to the fan. If they are confused about which wire is the hot wire they will use a ohm meter or even a test light to find the 12 volt powered wire. whomever told you you cannot use a ohm meter on a powered circuit needs to go back to school BTW. I can point you to switches that will handle the amperage that look like the dash switches if you like where you would not have to even run a relay. Helping out fellow RZR owners is different than confusing them or giving them bad information, even posters above told you just to buy the kit as from your posts it seemed over your head. But with your mechanical experience level we all know you got it figured out and I am sure you will have it working just fine....
