I have owned a 2015 900S EPS for about two years now and it is a mess of upgrades (I am sure done with good intentions), but I have a few questions. It has CageWRX roll cage, BMP exhaust, Bully Dog Tuner, 30x10x15 Fuel tires on Fuel wheels, clutch spring/weight kit.
Question 1. The shocks are stock FOX, I think someone cranked them down to lift it. If I understand right, I measure from the top of the shock tube down to the top of the spanner retainer with stock distance being 7.39"?
Question 2. When in high gear, the RPM has to be approaching 2000 before it engages and lurches forward. Seems violent. Normal for this setup?
Question 3. Why is my top speed barely 40MPH at 9,000 feet?
Question 4. Any recommendation for someone in the Denver/Boulder/Front Range area to take my RZR to for a once over inspection to see what we may need to adjust?

Top speed- Maybe the clutch kit isn't right for the 30" tires. May be something to do with how the weights are set up.
You might want to put the tune back to stock and see what it will do speed wise, to weigh the Bully Dog setting vs the clutching.
I'm reaching a little here and am learning about this stuff also.
Mine is stock currently and starts moving at about 1700-1800 rpm.

Can't help on the spring setting, sorry.
Good looking machine though!

Thanks for the response Sugarfoot. I have to agree, I think so many upgrades were done before I purchased it that taking some of the settings back to stock may help. I have the box with the weights, springs and arms as a starting point.

Sounds most likely like a clutching issue. Do you remove the cover and blow them out often? You didn't mention how many miles you've put on in the 2 years but would be my guess it's time to go through them.

Thank you White Lightning 19! I have put very few miles on it, we mainly use it on our 72 acres and the private roads off property. I do keep the maintenance up but I will take your recommendation and remove the clutch cover to blow it out and inspect the belt. Good advice.

Next, while I think all of that post applies, I do suspect it's clutched poorly. I suggest you find out what RPM is considered optimum for the bully dog tune, decide what RPM you're comfortable with, and then make sure you're hitting that rpm while accelerating (often call the shift-out RPM).

If you are, or are within a few hundred rpm (2-3), clutching is not a significant problem unless something is either slipping or absorbing power. Broken or worn in other words, not misconfigured.

As to the exact questions:

1) You need an owners manual for the exact preload. I don't have one, but they are often posted on this forum. Perhaps a search? And yes, adding excessive preload is not encouraged. A little isn't a problem, but it can affect safe handling, so..

That said I never cared much for the Poo method. I suggest using ground clearance from known points. Here is a post (different machine) with a better methodology:

2) Depends. They all grab, some belts more than others. The RPM? Well, as the attached post says, you're in a box. The previous owner headed towards more RPM. it's not unreasonable, but may not be your cup of tea either.

3) Probably clutching, but then maybe nothing. You're something more than 30% down on power, and your speedometer isn't reading correctly (it's under-reporting your correct speed). You're never going to get shifted fully out in the machine/altitude/tire combination, so you shift-out RPM is gonna tell the tale.

If it's at the target rpm then all that's left is "is it making the correct HP?" and/or "what in heck is eating up all the power?"

4) I got nothing, but others have offered insights, so...

Thank you Dafish, that made for some good reading. I appreciate all the info. It makes sense and operating at 9,200 feet elevation is tough on any machine for power. When I was buying a tractor for my mountain ranch, Kubota would not even sell me the tractor I needed because it was not Turbo. Luckily, John Deere had the size I needed with Turbo Diesel. This weekend I cleaned the already new air filter, put in new spark plugs and I was able to hit 50 mph! Unfortunately, my buddy was on a stock Ranger 800 and he was faster in top end. As recommended, I will pull the clutch cover, blow out the dust, inspect and see if I can tell what clutch parts I have. I know it is a BMP upgrade, I just don't know the level of upgrade. Thank you again

Do you have a tach? You really need to know your shift out RPM vs what bully dog says is optimum for your machine

Yes, I have a tach on the speedo and one on the BMP Bullydog tuner. I am researching the shift out RPM. I didn't get to my ranch this weekend to remove and inspect the clutch cover. I will probably order the HunterWorks belt and have it ready or as a spare. Thank you for all the input.
