Clutch Problems with the S

Is anyone else having issues with the belt squeeling?
I came down a long hill and the belt was squeeling then I smelled rubber and looked around and it was smoking. It ran okay after that but when coasting down hill you can hear it. Also it seems to be a little lazy out of the hole. My buddies stock 08 rzr gets me a car length out of the hole.

Any Ideas?

Mine is doing the same thing. It didn't do it when it was brand new. I have 44 miles on it now. You really just notice it when coasting at pretty low speed. I would love to know how to fix this problem. I wonder if a stronger kevlar belt would be the answer? Other than this I am very happy with my new toy.

I noticed if I give it just a slight and consistent touch on the throttle when descending a hill the noise goes away. Only loud when coasting. Might have something to do with engaging?

3 buddys of mine broke there belts just before 35 hours on there rzr-s

i dont know why those things let go that fast and just to let you guys know as a recovery utv that yamaha rhino did the 35 miles of dune thick sand, towing that rzr back to the road.

all 3 of them broke with in 2 weekends
and that rhino still does the same thing.

shocked

that sound that comes of the belt its when going downhill or letting go of the gas paddle, we are looking into it to see what can we do at the shop to easy fix this,
will get updates here soon.

It also could be the belt deflection. This is how high the belt rides in the secondary clutch. I have had the same problem with my sleds. I haven't personally looked to see how to adjust the sheeves on the rzr secondary clutch, but maybe try that. It always works for my sled.

I finally took the clutch cover off and found that the belt was rubbing against the inside of the cover when free-wheeling. The smoke that I had see that first time was from the clutch cover not the belt. The belt looks fine other than a slight little wear on the top from rubbing the cover. I guess it will eventually rub a hole in the cover. I can keep it from doing it by holding the brake and giving it a little gas while going down hills...

I am running the EPI clutch kit with the little white washer on the primary and MCX adjustable weights.
I have noticed the clutch squeeling when coasting down hill a couple times. This is when the clutch dissengages. As stated by others a light tap on the throttle will re-engage the clutch and the squeeling stops.

I think it might have something to do with the one way bearing making noise, but that is just a guess.
Taking the clutch apart and cleaning out the belt dust might be a solution, but a pain to do!

I noticed some rub marks inside my clutch cover too. I thought they were from when I blew up one of the belts... but maybe it is rubbing all the time...?
I never had rub marks in the cover of my 2008 RZR...

I've learned to always keep the belt engaged on down hills (give it a little gas). Easier to control and way less belt wear. You have to drive two footed on real technical downhills. Hearing the belt squeel from free-wheeling (coasting) makes me cringe. After a couple hundred miles, mine works like the first day I got it.

I blew my first belt at 20hrs and 400 miles. I indexed the drive clutch to take up the 1/8 inch gap between the belt and sheves and im running 10 series sled weights instead of the 20's but it didnt really help. I can smell belt burning when i have it pinned for an extended time and on long hill climbs. I live at 7000 ft. so i run a pretty light weight compared to u sea level guys. Does anyone have a spring rate chart for the s? Ive asked my dealer but he hasent been able to find one...

Mine goes tweet, tweet, tweet to. I have been just giving it throttle down hill but it kind of sucks.
