Clutch Mod?

Some guys that work for the dealer I got my rzr from were talking to me about a clutch mod they are doing for rzrs. I was in kind of a hurry, but the gist of it was better performance on the lower end and in your operating range for trail riding, but it would take a little off the top end.

They are taking the stock clutch out and having something (spacer?) measured then re fabricated at a local machinists and then re installed.

Anybody know about these clutch mods? Would it likely improve compression for those steep declines?

Good, bad or indifferent?

Quoted 250.00 and said it took about three days turn around time.

Go to EPI and get a clutch kit for your riding conditions, tires, mods, and alltitude. They have been in the clutch business since polaris has been around. They REALLY know there stuff and the kit cost less than the price you were quoted.

Jim,you can gain a lot of knowledge here on the form, one suggestion is to read BlackBarts excellent threads on clutch operations, I have and I'm confused as to what this dealer is doing.
Jim has nailed it! EPI, and other clutch vendors make their living on their knowledge and products. There advice is based on operator experience and well worth the $$,

Found all the BlackBart links after posting this thread here. Had the same results using "search" as someone else posting here today. :rollfinger:

Anyway, thanks all, I have already bought the under protection I needed with lots of advice given here, and am waiting delivery of a lift kit done much the same way. I checked out EPI and saw how you could match your style, your mods, and your machine to a particular clutch kit. This is very good stuff.

Could very well be, I was kind of trying to get on the road, and I admit, I have never been much of a tinkerer when it comes to mechanics.

I would like to see it perform a bit better going downhills and keeping engaged so I don't feel like I have to be on the brakes all the time.

Not saying anything bad about other suppliers of clutch kit, but I have had 8 different polaris machines (snow and atv) and all had EPI kits in them, NEVER had a lick of trouble with one.

I'm not bashing clutch kits, They work better in some situations then others.

You will get better performance by having your clutch tuned on your machine. This is the only way that you will get better performance in ALL situations. I have messed with various kits, not saying which ones, but some don't out perform the stock set up and arn't worth the money. You will better off by researching how your clutch works and buying various weights and springs. You will waste a few bucks but in the end you will understand what works, your rzr will perform better and you will have spent less money.

The extra parts will be used to help tune another rzr. They never are exactly the same.

If you aren't racing, mudding or putting giant tires on it let the clutch alone.
