I will try and make this a short read instead of my normal long winded article.

After owning a XP 900 and having the primary clutch lock up due to dirt making it's way into the bearing plus reading issues on this forum I decided Hunterworks needed to address this issue and help you guys out.

All Polaris RZR's of all models need clutch maintenance every so often depending on how dusty the conditions might be. Do NOT put any kind of filter on it though as air flow will decrease and heat is a bigger enemy.

It might be kinda costly to buy the tools necessary to take your primary apart and your secondary apart but in the long run you will save yourself some trouble, lost riding time and money.

One complaint is "My RZR is hitting the rev limiter at odd times all of a sudden and does not do it at same speed every time.

The problem is dirt is building up in the bushings in the primary and binding it.

Another reason to buy the tools and do the maintenance is to save the cost of buying a new clutch from all the wear the dirt causes in the bushings.

I promised to keep this short but the point of this is, you simply need to do some maintenance on your clutches every so often to keep them from costing you time and money.

We have the tools and videos to show you how to do this. Click on the links below.

Good, informative post, Todd. I just got through opening-up my CVT housing to do a belt inspection, and everything was totally clean inside, even after a season of riding in really dusty desert conditions. I mean, you could eat dinner off the inside of my CVT cover! I guess that I'm just luckier than some, dunno........

As an addendum to my previous post, #6 above, I would add that I have done the "Grumpy-mod" (between the the seats) pre-filter, using a sheet of OuterWears filter material. I credit this mod for keeping my CVT housing, clutches, intake-plenum, and intake-canister dust free and relatively clean. Just FWIW............

Cheers

Would it be recommended to open the clutch cover and rinse/wash with water to clean everything, then let air dry before reinstalling? Or is that a no no?

My 2012 W/E rzr800 with a what should be real torquey 850cc N/A engine has been doing this since got the engine in the chassis. At fitter I had a TAGTEAM/Holz clutch kit in and was cutting out or hitting the rev limiter intermittently , so put stock clutching (stock has 62g weights) back in think theirs was to loose, stock clutch is better but still doing it. Thought maybe its just lean so got s PCV on still and after riding it yesterday s day for first time in many months still doing it, might just show 4800 or 5400 on tach, but think its bumpin rev limiter eratically.

Maybe the 68 gram weights weren't heavy enough to over come the stiff primary and stiff secondary springs with kit. Wonder if I try the 68gram weights with stock springs if it would tighten the clutching up ?
