Chase bar

I am looking at ~30"-36" chase bar for my machine.

I want red outside, amber next and white center. I am indifferent if it is a 5 or 6 light system.

My goal is to have the outside red work as brake, tied into my tail lights, and blinkers tied to a dash switch. The ambers would be "flashing" and the white center would be tied to my current rear light switch. This will be on a street legal machine so I need to be able to turn the ambers off. I need/want the red brake and turn signals.

I am wanting to stay under $150 and I have plenty of wiring experience.

I have been looking at the following 2 light bars both have pros and cons. I would be open to other suggestions also.

I like this one, Amazon.com overall for a lot of reasons. My primary concern is that reviews say that activation the brakes makes both red side lights flash. This will not work on a street legal machine.

This is the other main light I am looking at, Amazon.com
My main concern with this one is lots of questionable reports about the wiring, water intrusion and short life overall.

Any thoughts or opinions?

I have the first light u posted and just helped a friend install the same one. We're both happy with it, but both reds do flash when the brake is applied. It may operate differently if using as a turn signal tho. Neither of us use a turn signal kit.

I am still hoping for a few replies, but now that I have stepped away for a bit I might have another option.

Use the first one. Use the red for running lights and turn (sounds like no need for a flasher) and not connect the brakes and only use the OEM brake lights.

Your first choice, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DCNTBJR/ref=twister_B091L7HCLK?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 is the same one I have.

1. You can not wire for brakes AND turn signal without a 3rd party override controller. The left/right leads are for turn signal -OR- tie them together for brakes.

2. The outside red LEDs rapid flash when activated so you DO NOT use a turn signal relay if wiring for turns.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I just recently acquired your second option from a friend who couldn't use it on his new cage. Wired it up to the tail lights for brake lights, red when brakes not applied. Amber light can be turned off via the included switch and I have the white lights wired to a seperate switch. Currently installing a ryco street legal kit so I'll see how the signals integrate into the chase Light. Brake lights don't flash before coming on when the brake is applied, just gets brighter.

I almost got this one as well. Looks like this one might check all the OPs boxes. I know you said you have a signal kit to be installed but did you test the following?...

1) Are the brake lights and turn signal leads different or shared?
2) If brakes are applied (LEDs brighter) will they still flash if a turn signal is applied? (this is where shared leads need an external controller)

I have the first one on my PXP2 and hooked up the outside red lights to my brake lights. I was stopped and advised that the brake lights can't continously flash more than 3 times. So I hooked them up to the Accessory so they stay solid. It is a great light.

I've tried several off the shelf chase bars with limited long term durability. I got tired of pissing away money and made my own:
What do you use for a controller? Do you just have several switches and relays depending on use?

This really might be the best idea. I would just have to figure out how I want to mount the lights.

Well I've got the ryco turn signal kit installed and it works so far. The brake lights work on the tail light and chase light and turn signals work on tail light only. I've got the stock harness plugged into the Amazon harness into the ryco harness into the tail light. I'm not sure which wire in the ryco triggers the turn signals but maybe in the future I'll dig into it a little more to connect it to the chase light. For now it works for me as is.

Hey everyone, Baja Designs offers a couple of different chase bar options that you all should check out. The RTL series of rear LED light bars have many uses on a vehicle. These bars can function as off-road brake lights, running lights, cargo lights, or license plate lights. The original RTL light bar is a 30-inch long fixture with several practical variations. I'll add the Link to these options below for you all to check out and let me know what you think.

Looks like great stuff. It is just 2-3x what I am looking to spend on this machine.

I know there is a quality difference. My flashlight I carry for work cost almost as much as one of your light bars.

I think I'm going to ditch the 35" bar (option 1) and get the Xprite 30" bar (option 2). I finally installed my turn signal kit this week and as expected, I had to pick between brake lights or turn signals. Since my state prohibits flashing brakes lights for road use, the choice was easy... went turn signals. I'm just hung up on the fact that the mfr missed a HUGE feature.

Yep, for street brakes that's a no go. So actually, the bar has two flaws. It's a shame because otherwise the bar is a home run for the price.

Mine only lasted a couple of months before several LEDs burnt out. I was not impressed with the quality, cheaply made.

I needed a chase light for my buggy and did not feel like building another custom one. I got up with Brandon @Baja Designs and ordered a RTL-B. They had a 4-6 week lead time when I ordered it a few weeks ago. Looking forward to getting it and I'm sure it will be s high quality as all their other products.
Damn. I'll have to make due with the one I have. It has held up well going on two years in Michigan weather. Well shit.

It looks like the BD is just a light bar with turn signal capability?... no strobe? Not that I have a pressing need for strobe, but my kids like it. I might nut up for the BD after I get the suspension done.

UPDATE: You do have BOTH brake and turn signal with the 35" bar in question... I had to disassemble a plug to pull wires how I wanted and got some of the pins mixed up. That said, the initial issue still stands... brakes are a constant flashing which can be an issue in some states for street use.

So here's how they work...

Brakes: continuous flashing
Turn signal: burst flashing (how many flashes per burst is controlled by your turn signal relay--mine is adjustable)
Brakes plus turn signal: brake only side will flash continuous and directional side will burst--it's VERY busy when lookin at it--meh

So it looks like @Baja Designs gets more of my money next year đź’°đź’°đź’°

I got my bar installed. This weekend and overall I am happy.

On the wire side I built and aluminum guard to protect the wire from hanging up on branches.

I wired the system up with outer red constant on and turn signals. This works anytime the machine is on. I used a switch for the chase feature which activates the center white and ambers between the white and red. I attached the white constant on to the same switch my other rear lights are on. I did not hook up the brake or constant orange wire. The wire length was exactly right for my machine.

I also installed 2 orange dots on each front corner so now I have 4 corner turn signals.

Overall I am happy with this bar and time will tell about the durability.

Here are some pics from playing in the snow today.

We are north of Spokane, about 2.5hr away from ML. These images are on my property from yesterday.

We do a fair amount of riding in the central part of the state, mostly around Ellensburg.

After the holidays we are headed south for a couple of months and then will be back up here spring/summer.
