So got new rims and tires and no more than 5kms or 2miles (something like that). I hear a large burst of air from my back tire. Tire instantly flat.

I thought i had lost the bead but couldn't see anything. Took the tire off and washed it and found this hole.

Looks like it a rock? got stuck between my a-arm protector? and my rim and broke right through the rim. Can something like this be fixed? its an MSA m12 diesel rim. Is something like this a cause for warranty?

thanks guys

from looking at the pictures it looks like the rim failed from the inside out it might have had a weak spot in the rim and once the sir inside heated up it blew out. it can be fixed but i bet you well have a really hard time finding anybody that will do it for you i had one on a four wheeler do almost the same thing and nobody would touch it they said they did not want to be responsible if something happened later on so i had to get a new wheel.

I've seen automotive wheels repaired with much worse damage than that. Google "aluminum rim repair" in your geographic area. Also, it appears to me, you are correct in the mode of failure- a hard object wedged between your caliper or bearing carrier etc, an popped a hole inward. I have seen this many times on race cars that have had an offroad excursion in a gravel trap and continued on. Rocks wedged against aluminum will win every time!

I had a rim on my wife's BMW fixed through a shop in Dayton oh and it is perfect. They spin balanced it up to 150mph an it was spinning true. Rim looked as good as new could not even tell repair was made. With that being said it cost me around 475$ to ship and repair, this was a deal because the rim was 1300$ to replace. I'd try to see if they will warranty it and if not may just be cheaper to buy new

If you have a hole in your MSA M12 Diesel rim caused by a rock getting stuck between your a-arm protector and the rim, it is unlikely to be covered by warranty. However, the rim may be repairable depending on the extent of the damage. It is recommended to take the rim to a professional rim repair shop to assess the damage and determine if it can be repaired. They will have the expertise and equipment to provide a proper evaluation and advise on the best course of action.
