My Polaris 2015 belt was chunks, and threads yes. Mostly chunks though. For no apparent reason it decided to grenade. We never smelt any burning. We very rarely have since the Dalton kit. The cover has been of a few times and there weren't any signs of excessive wear. We were all puttin down the powerline and bang. :(

I can't believe how much info you guys know. I am an idiot mechanically because I am always afraid to take something apart for not being able to get it back together. So just for my familys sake when riding deep into the florida wilderness and breaking a belt,,,,,,only turn the Secondary (the big circle looking thing) counter clockwise when installing the belt. I have taken cover off to inspect mine as I have over 500 miles now and it looks brand new like I didnt have a mile on it. I ordered 2 new belts off amazon both gates carbon fiber belts because we are heading to HATFILED MCCOY this june. Please clarify for idiots like me so we dont leave our you ng kids in the woods overnight. Thanks Guys:redrzr:

Primary is on the left attached to the crankshaft of the engine. Secondary is attached to the transmission.

I would cancel your order and get the gates belt from hunterworks on this forum. AFAIK Amazon does not carry the 2015 style belt, although the 2014 / Xp 900 belt you ordered will work as amazon says, it's supposedly thinner. Nappa also carries them, but probably more expensive. Gates version of the 2015 belt has part number 27C4159

So for those of you with a aftermarket warranty... Pause...HAHA. It's a insurance policy! Not a warranty at all!

I found this out when the dealer said "the adjuster had a look at it today". It dawned on me. No wonder aftermarket warranties are horrible. They alread it exactly like insurance.

I should know more tomorrow.

SAL and they are taking their sweet ass time while the machine sits collecting dust with a open engine on the bench.

2 weeks now and not a word from them.

All though they were slow with the decision everything has been fully covered. New top end and a oil pump. Polaris thinks the oil pump is to blame for the slack tensioner. Could be I suppose.

Well that's good news.
This will total about a month of downtime depending on the oil pump. It's back ordered. It is also the best weather we've wer had this time of year. Pros and cons!

I'm thankful for the coverage of the extended warranty. Polaris good willed the head and oil pump. SAL covered the rest. Valves, pistons, springs gaskets etc. $3500 total. By the way Polaris warranty ended in April.

Well, I never read about only turning counter clockwise. Good to know as I just installed gates belt and rotated secondary clockwise to get it on over rapid clutch that comes on 2015 900. Not sure if it rotated primary, but guessing it did as it was tight as hell getting new belt on. Clutch tool is useless on this type of clutch so spreading secondary is nearly impossible. Glad to hear they covered it, I have the extended warranty as well for issues I might have like this.

Never had the primary turn by installing/removing belt...it takes some effort doing it by hand so I would think it would be pretty much impossible for the belt to do it when changing.

If you have the white lightning you can take a pair of the vise grip welding pliers and use them to pinch the old belt together between the primary and secondary. This will open up the secondary and make roving the belt easy. Then just put the new belt over the primary old start it on the bottom side of the secondary. roll it by hand counter clockwise as far as you can then take a pry bar and run it through the triangle brace on the back side of the shock and pry the belt on using the ribs on the back of the belt. Very easy this way
