Hey all, I'm assuming a broke my reverse chain yesterday. 2013 900
I bought it used, had polaristar extended warranty paperwork that came with it.
Is this normally a easily covered item by them? Or should i just start tearing it down my self? If it is covered i really don't want it to be down sitting at the dealer for 3-4 weeks like i've heard of other people have with warranty issue/waiting on parts. What's a chain and associated parts usually run if i decide to do it myself?

Hey let me ask you something first.

1. what kind of aftermarket stuff is on the ride? Big tries? a lift? Arched a-arms?

also it is true, if you drop it off for a warrenty work, and for something for like a rear chain they will most likely have it for easily a month if not longer. You will have to bring it in, they have to take pics and take it apart. Then they have to apply for the warranty claim. Bc its a big claim the warranty company will send a rep out to check out the ride, if you have big tires, a lift, different axles anything I will deny the claim. So if you want to use it, it needs to be all stock. If you plan on doing this yourself go with the turner reverse chain upgrade. I hate to be the person to bring bad news but you are looking at around a 2grand cost either way you go.

Has 28 bighorns. No lift at all. Stock front a-arms, arched lower radius arms on rear. Rhino axles up front and stock rear axles.I'll probably end up doing it myself, not gonna wait 4 plus weeks for the dealer to do it. Plus i dont like the idea of others working on my stuff. I'm a mechanic by trade, so doing the work isn't a big deal.

I would do it yourself then hands down. I have had a very bad experience with the dealers mechanics around me. And if you are going to do the work might as well upgrade! so it will not happen again, this upgrade is even bigger than the reverse chain that's upgraded on the higher lifter 1kxp edu. So in other words its well worth the extra $$ I posted a link for you below.

And if/when you do the work post up some pics!!!

Ahh have you also checked your front diff? Be very careful doing anything in 4 wheel drive that will have the front end compressed down. (like pulling someone out, put doing down hill with all your wait on the front will be kind of the same thing) What it does it puts pressure on the front diff cage and causes them to split. This has been known to destroy many front diff's.

If you are going to do the work yourself, I highly suggest looking into the Turner upgrade. It's a little more $, but worth it in the long run. Lots of info on here regarding it...

Looking at turner stuff now. But its way more money than stock chain. Stock chain is right at $100 according to dealer. I'll take my chances for a 1700 difference. Front diff is fine, had to use 4wd to get it back to the truck. It doesn't make any crazy noises or anything abnormal.

Got the trans out today, started splitting the case. Broken chain fell out.
Problem is, for some reason i can't the case all the way apart. Is there something special i'm missing? I put it in high gear as i read that was necessary. Unless it got bumped out of high if that can can cause an issue? Overall it's been pretty straight forward of a job though.

I don't have an answer to your question and I know its a week later we did my reverse chain a couple months ago and I ended up having a couple of the gears that were ate up from the chain going. MAKE sure you look them over mine rode fine after I broke it and never sounded like anything was grinding but the chain chipped a couple gears.
