Regarding the paint on the rear trailing arms. I dont have a 1K but my XP4 the rear trailing arms were half sand blasted off after the first two trips out. A few things I figured out.
1) the wheelbase of the XP4 vs. the XP puts the front tire debris spray right on the rear trailing arm. Our friends XP the rear trailing arm red paint is holding up fine, looks dull, but is not blasted like both of our XP4's.
2) The front alinement was per Polaris spec (3/8 tow out) but once I set the tow to 0 the dirt spray was not nearly as bad, and was not directed at the trailing arm. Plus the car was much less darty, especially in sand washes.
3) I spoke to my local powder coat guy (Powder 1) who has been doing powder coating for me for years. He said the quality of powder paint the manufactures uses is not as good as what you get in the private market. And the prep, which like any paint project is 80% of the results, is no where near what you get from your local powder coat shop. He said you can see the difference from Mass Production Powder Coat vs. his Powder Coat. He said Mass Production is when they build the part, wipe it down with cleaner, spray the powder and bake it on. Many large mass production facilities will have automated sprayers too, so they will not always get into all the nooks & crannies. A quality Powder coat shop will sand blast each piece, then clean it before applying powder and baking it.
To be honest I did not think the Polaris paint was powder coat until I was told it was. With the way it came off, I though it was just paint. There was no thickness to it like the powder coat I am used to getting. When I have chipped powder coat that Powder 1 has done for me, you can see the thickness of the paint.
Due to cost & the fact that they are having to produce in mass quantities they cant offer the quality you can get in the private market.
