Samsung tablets have built in GPS and use GLONASS which not all tablets do. I’ve had the same TabA10.1 since 2017 with hundreds of hours of ride time and not a single issue. It has a screen protector and is in a good case. Been exposed to water, dust, mud, snow, temps below 0F and it just keeps going and going. I use Backcountry Navigator Pro iirc, it’s one time $15 fee I think. Hard to beat a Samsung tablet for what they cost. Like another member posted, they are way tougher than you think.

I was wondering about this topic as well and was starting to look into what apps everyone was using with the iPad. I see that everyone's choice seems to be a Samsung but is that because of the price vs the iPad or do they preform better? I have a few iPads that have cell service with the GPS chip that I planed on using but now I'm curious.
I think mostly because most, if not all of the Samsung tablets, including the sub $200 ones come with a good built in GPS. WIth iPad you have to get a cellular version and last time I checked those started about 2x the price of the Samsung.

If the program you want to run works fine on the iPad, go for it.

All this got me back into wanting to install tablet in my rzr. Ordered utv inc dash plate, a wifi camera and taillight harness to power camera.

Already have a samsung a8 tablet, but it doesn’t seem to have built in gps. Unless that is some secret functionality.

Now I need to figure out how to mount and remove for home use. I want it flush mounted.

At first i didnt think mine was working. Nothing magic. Report back.

I did it and it worked. Now I just need to decide how I want to attach it to the UTV Inc plate. Is velcro strong enough to hold?

I would say no. More so on the adhesive side. Especially when heat/sun is involved. How about ram mount. One of these?

I liked the Ride Command App. will probably work well for me. I mainly want it for backup camera for now. This thread has helped me make up my mind and some decisions. Hope it has helped the original poster,

I would really prefer a almost flush mount. Dont want it sticking out into the cab and such. Have thought about buying a case and just screwing it to the UTV Inc plate. Then take tablet in and out of that.

Is 32GB enough memory on a Samsung tablet? Would use primarily for navigation (back country navigator, Orux) and ride command app.

No problem. (y)

Load it up with it's max capacity. After that, try and set all your apps to store on the new card instead of internal storage. Some will and others won't.

Others: If you want to completely nerd out, try and root your tablet.

Rooting your Android tablet comes with multiple benefits, such as the ability to gain administrative rights to the Android operating system, the option to extend your battery life and memory, and the ability to install apps exclusive to rooted devices. The method you use to root your Android device is different depending on the make and model of your tablet, as well as the version of Android you are running

There are hundreds of support pages and information on how to do it. You can eliminate so much of the tablet bloat-ware. The downfall...
1) Warranty Void
2) You screw up, you end up with a "bricked" device.
