Asking Polaris for a one year Warranty Extention

A week ago my dealer phoned and told me that they had another 570 dropped off and ready for sale, as he knew my brother-In-law wants one as well. I used this as an opportunity to tell him the jig up as everyone that does their homework knows that a few 570s are starting to break. I said until Polaris does something about this, no one will be buying a 570 soon. He thanked me and said he was going to hold off on the offer from Polaris to drop two more units at his door. He also said that he would rattle the bushes at the Polaris dealer’s event later this month in the US and find out more on the subject. Since then I emailed him the news and yes mine needs to be pulled apart and checked for the right parts. He also said that he is to tell me not to drive it until it is checked. So much for my first ride this weekend. I told him so far I have driven it 15 feet from the cargo trailer to the garage because of the snow…today it is one month old. I will deliver it to the dealer tomorrow which will be a 3 hour round trip. He said they will put it in line to be fixed as they are real busy doing snow machines right now. He thought it would take about 2 weeks to be finished if they had to order parts.
I have to say I am not happy to have someone with their hands in my engine of my brand new 0 mile RZR that I paid over $13,000 for. To make me happy for all the trouble and uncertainty of having the engine opened up (if it needs fixing or not) I would like to ask Polaris to extend my warranty for one year from the date I get it back. After all it is no money out of their pocket if the mechanic does a good job and it stays together.
Is anybody that is going to have their 570 ripped apart up for joining me in sending in a letter to Polaris asking for a one year warranty extension?

As any of you know that have read my posts,I'm a real cheerleader for the 570. Although I'm not happy about this hiccup with the rod dropping on this thing, it is getting covered under warranty. Should we be compensated for our hassle in some form? Yes we should get an extended warranty,at least equal to the time spent in the shop. But let me play devils advocate here. Any other warranty issue you take it in and it gets fixed and you never think twice about it. So why should this be any different really. The guys that don't get to use their machine until spring thaw, that purchased in the dead of winter are the ones who will eat any other warranty stuff that would otherwise be covered. So will I be asking for an extended warranty? Probably not. If I end up having issues with the engine in the future, well I hope to have some miles on it between now and then, but you can bet your ass I'll be purchasing an extended warranty before my 6 months runs out.

I agree with Shannon, it may not be likely that we can get a warranty extension, but perhaps it's at least worth trying. Polaris stated that they may have installed the wrong part. Why should we be "penalized" on our short term warranty for their mistake? It's not like we caused the problem. Fixing it on their dime is great, but that's what they are supposed to do in this situation. Meanwhile we are paying for something we can't use and for some of us that could be several weeks.

If this was an auto dealer, you could expect the auto dealer to provide a loaner in this type of situation. At the very least, Polaris should provide some other means to help satisfy their customers. In that respect, I'll support RZR4SAR's effort.

My main bummer with down time is I can't tinker with it. My rides are planned out because of my geographical local. I don't usually do day trips. I go out about once or twice a month for 4-7 days at a time. So I'm not really experiencing any "down time" really. But I am trying to get stuff done before my next ride. That's what's pissing me off.

boy am i a lucky bugger. i just called the dealer and was told my RZR was not on the recall. that being said i also have it on record that i called and was told not to worry. if something happens in the future i should be able to get it covered. a 6 month warranty is really short in my opinion and that was the one thing i had to really consider when i bought mine. with a car they very seldom extend warranties because of a repair. you might get an additional 6 months on the motor, maybe. even the time in the shop is not added to the warranty time. they will offer a loaner on cars when they think it is your only means of transportation. Fun things don't count. now if polaris gets enough complaints about the down time they might extent the warranty on the motor to 6 months after repair. that would be considered by them as a reasonable offer. i would like to see them offer owners of all affected machines the 6 month extension not because something might go wrong but to build more confidence in their product, they have a good product. Good luck in your request and i hope all the owners who are affected will write them.

I have to agree with you. As being one of the effected. A six month warranty seems standard for off road toys. I bought five bikes last year from the same dealer I got my rzr from. One of them was a ttr 50. My son went down and hit a rock or something and bent the shifting rod. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty. Arguably, they could have charged me,but they didn't. Yamaha didn't even question it,just fixed it. If Polaris did the same more often it would be better. My dealer doesn't even sell their warranty because it's always a hassle with them. The other four major off road companies have been in business for a long time, with fairly good reps. That's part of the reason. You have to stand behind your product. In my business I have to stand behind my product or I'd have no business.

i also own a 2009 suzuki king quad. i bought it in 2011 from the dealer with 2 miles on it. they gave me a 12 month warranty. a year is pretty standard for most everything else you buy, so i was just a little concerned when Polaris only offers 6 mo. there are so many Polarises around they must know they last.

I sent an email to customer service asking for a warranty extension. They told me to handle any issues with my local dealer and that they did not extend warranties. But, I could buy an extended warranty if I wanted. I really think they should at least offer a component coverage letter on the engine. I guess I will just run the snot out of it when I get it back and see if it holds together.

shame on polaris! this is my 1st polaris and it will be my last! yes am happy with the 570 before it went to the shop for the recall but why should any of us spend our money on a company that just doesnt care! i ask my dealer to pick up my rzr for the recall however they were going to bill me $85, so i took my time and gas to drop my recalled rzr off. they not only need to extend the warranty on the engine, maybe just maybe care enough about us too throw something else in the deal! after all many of us 570 are new to polaris and my brand new machine is sitting in a shop because some jackass cant do his job!

I had a very nice letter made up to explain the situation and had to cut it down to about 30 words to make it fit into the area given on the web page. There was no way keep it nice and still explain the problem. It truly is a joke the amount of room they give you to explain the problem. This is after you have to jump through all their hoops of creating an account.
This is my first Polaris and I like the 570 but this company has a lot to learn....If you don’t need something 50 inches wide.....

I got a letter from Polaris yesterday outlining the costs of their extended Polaristar warranty for the 570. The cost of the Polaris warranty are as follows, 2 year= $640, 3 year= $870, 4 year= $1050, 5 year= $1240. It has a $50 deductible per visit and is the only warranty backed by polaris. My dealer had a private plan that was much cheaper.

WOW... I hope they send me a letter like that! My dealer quoted me $1800 for 2 years.
Could you please private mail me the name of the private plan so I can see if it is available here?

I just got my reply from the Polaris web page and it is not a no. They want to know all my numbers from the machine but I am away for 2 weeks....I will email the dealer and see if he will pass them onto me from his records.

After reading the posts, I was thinking what gm ford dodge would do in this case. Same thing Polaris is doing. Fixing what's wrong. I agree 6 months is not a long time, having grown up in motocross where the bikes have no warranty, 6 months sound awesome!

I believe Polaris should extend the warranty for the time the machine has been brought to the shop, till the time it has been completed. I think that's fair. So if dealer x takes 2 weeks to fix the rod prob, add 2 weeks. It's good pr to do so. Be thankfull you didnt buy a arctic cat sled this year , I have a friend with 29 service bulletins on a 15g machine. CAt gave everyone 3 yrs extra warranty. IMO, if the didn't the would of had the crap beaten out of them as a pr disaster. They did 3 yrs so the could figure out how to fix their sleds.

Am I looking at extended warranty? Yes. From Polaris? No. They got my money onece, not getting it twice. If the would extend the warranty by the down time you all have experienced, I might change my mind.

Polaris, are you listining? You won't own the sxs market forever, make your customers happy!

Best of luck on your dealings with Polaris,

Shoe.

We had a 2011 rzr s and had trans problems and it was in the shop 4 of the 6 months it was under warranty and they would not extend it for us either. It's terrible that we pay this much money for our machines and they won't honor a extension on the warranty when we have these problems. Took them 6 months to finely put a new trans in it. Told me one time that the clicking noise was normal. HA I don't think so had to get the lawyer involved and they put a new trans in. Alot of hassle for something they should have done from the beggening.
Good Luck

I phoned the dealer today and the parts are not in to do the "full job". He said later next week. This will make it 3 weeks without my 570. They have deprived me of one month of my warranty. I have been just waiting to find out if I needed the full deal done and how long it will take. I will phone Polaris on Monday and start climbing the complaint ladder to see about a warranty extension. I know someone said that they were told Polaris does not extend warranties…well I don’t buy defective ZRZs from the factory and not be compensated. I will probably have to write the CEO a formal letter as per the unacceptable response everyone else is getting.

Good luck with that. I complained to the dealer last weekend and talked to them on the phone several times trying to express my frustrations. I then emailed Polaris (same weekend) and got a response from Polaris on Monday. Their email said that the parts were on backorder and "sorry for the delay". I then called Polaris this past Monday and talked to their lousy customer service. They couldn't even access my vehicle information. In fact they asked me for the parts that were being ordered, so that should tell you that they are disjointed. I then emailed my dealer with my frustrations with a lengthy list of my concerns (similar to yours). I called Polaris again on Wednesday (with a cooler head) and tried again. Still no help from them, mainly because they don't talk to their own departments. The rep basically said that my only recourse is through the dealer, however, they do record information gathered on phone calls and that the dealer can see those comments.

Within 15 minutes of that phone call, my dealer emailed a response to my email sent two days prior. He said that they would pay for the fluids that needed to be replaced as a result of the engine rebuild. He would even try to get a warranty extension, something the Polaris rep said they couldn't do directly. Apparently the warranty extension request has to come from the dealer....why them only and not the customer??

On a side note, they called me today and said that it was almost put back together, but there were a few things that slowed them down so they couldn't finish today. They said it would be ready Tuesday afternoon (they are closed Sun-Mon). Only 2.5 weeks to do the job......and that was after I argued to have them ship the parts 3 day service. I feel your pain.
