Got a brand new 5.2 hours and I want to use Amsoil like I do in everything else I own. Anyone else using it? And if not Amsoil what about Royal Purple and what grade? I would also like to know what kind of grease everyone is using for shafts as well as suspension. Thanks in advance.

Have you pulled any engines apart in the RZR's that have been using Amsoil for any duration to kind of compare? I'm a big Amsoil fan (use it in my boat) and just bought a RZR and now have 4 miles on it!

I'm thinking of going with MCF after I get to about 25 hours, but nothing I've seen from Lucas or Amsoil has that PS-4 rating on it from the Polaris API recommendation? Is PS-4 even a API thing or a Polaris thing?

Yea, Amsoil had a lot of "anti-synthetic bias" to overcome being the very first and now look, everybody and there dog is into synthetic. Amsoil got blamed for lots of stuff that was not there fault, simple because no one understood synthetic. Especially the labs.

I have been running Amsoil for years and I put full confidence in it. Proof for me was several years ago I had a 96' SeaDoo XP and BRP said specifically to use nothing but Bombardier XPS II injector oil because of it's high ash content. While coming down the lake it dropped a RAVE valve and busted a piston. It had never had any oil other than the XPS oil since it was new and when I tore the engine down it looked like s*** inside. That 800 Rotax engine is one of the few 2-stokes that actually have oil in the crankcase and does not use reed valves, therefore it has a rotary valve that opens and closes the intake. Anyway back the topic at hand, after rebuilding the engine I left the oil injector pump off and started pre-mixing my oil/gas. I used Amsoil interceptor 2-stroke oil and I noticed three improvements over the XPS oil, 1) MUCH less smoke, 2) better throttle response and 3) after several hours on the new engine components I took a look inside and it looked good as new. Since then I've used Amsoil in my vehicles (engine, diff's, trans etc...) my CanAm outlander, and even my commercial mowers. The only reason I don't have it in my RZR yet is because I haven't serviced it other than it's first oil change (dealer). Just like Gixxxer750, I am also a dealer for them so if I can help anybody with any of their products or literature or product specs let me know. Most people run the powersports 0w-40 and it covers the Polaris PS4Plus oil.

They use have changed. They use to always say atf fluid for the front diff

Polaris has changed the part # on there front oil several times as I suspect Hyland has changed the specs of what they call for. Was regular gear lube, ATF, a light shock oil, now the tractor fluid, maybe more I'm not aware of. Seem like a learning curve from Hyland on down. I like the ideal of the tractor fluid, seems to make sense.

OH NO! Not the dreaded "oil discussion"... Seems every forum has these and they are all a can of worms!

I'd love to share my opinion, but I'm clueless. I have no idea what I'm going to use.... What I do know is that I WILL check the oil BEFORE EVERY SINGLE RIDE! The thing only holds 2.5 qts. 1/2 quart low could spell disaster.
Something else I know is that modern oil is good. Especially synthetic oil. Chances are, if you keep your oil checked, and use a quality oil (IMO - Amsoil is) you'll be good to go...

In the testing we have done everyone needs to find a cat dealer and go spend 15 dollars for a test kit and send there oil in. Not going to say what I recommend but we have tested it all dyno wise and lab results and if you are looking for the best there are only a few out there. For anyone out there says there isn't a difference there is big time.

Z15 is correct Polaris is not a oil company they just sell oil to make money. In the testing we did Polaris oil is just a basic oil nothing special. All the other leading performance oil companies that we tested on the chassis dyno and out on the trails are just a tick better then Polaris Stuff. There is a gain of protection with using there stuff, but not much power gain. I just want to note I am not here to sell anyone or start a war between who's oil is better. Since I enjoy my RZR on the weekends and work for Joe Gibbs Racing Oil/Driven Racing oil figured we would do these tests. On the chassis dyno we made 1.5 hp from 0-45 better which is where max power is. Where the big problem is from 45 to 80-90 all the other oil drop off big time where we kept a straight line and ended up about 3 hp better and getting a full mph top speed out of the machine before it hit the chip. In my opinion the real problem is the Transmission, Front and Rear Diff oils. We been testing with some racers and everything we have tested is terrible. The alum and silicone levels are so high I am surprise there isn't more failures. Anything you put in your rzr is better then Polaris oil and they can not deny a warranty work because of using other products. There are laws about this.

I'm running the same stuff and am happy with it.

I'm a Rotax engine mechanic and write tech articles for them and I own a new 2015 rzr 1000 and have owned ATV's and UTV's for 30 years. As a Rotax mechanic I send in oil samples fairly frequently and have not seen any issues with the better oils.

Here is an older oil survey done by Amsoil and test run by separate company. A few things may have changed, but it will give you a better insight and understanding of motorcycle oils and their additives and why certain applications need them. There is no perfect oil and there are a few good ones as you will see as you read. Polaris doesn't have the best oil and no company is allowed to force you to use their oil or deny warranty so long as the oil you use meets the company specs.
One important additive for motorcycles is ZDDP. Motorcycles have to have it, cars don't.

Motorcycles and ATV motors are not the same horse. Amsoil makes oil specific for the motorcycles and one specific for the ATV/OHV motors. They do not recommend the motorcycles oil for the RZR engines. I checked with them to be sure.

Hi Sandblster,

I fully agree. The other oils are more inline for cars. They have just been
re-branded to make them look like they are more specific. (I do a lot of research when I write papers and talk to many MFG's that may be involved) The motorcycle oils are usually used when an engine and gearbox share the same oil. This is the most common use. It is also used when flat tappet lifters are used which this engine does not have. The additives in motorcycle oil do offer some added protection for high stress and high rev engines against metal to metal abrasion. The only time the motorcycle oil would not be a good idea is when the is a catalytic converter involved. The ZDDP will clog it up. The old cars had to have this, but when they came out with roller bearings, OH cams and catalytic converters it was taken out for autos.

I use Amsoil in my Honda Goldwing and my airplane engine and have been for more than 20 years. There are other good oils out there. The determining factor for oil use and or problems is just changing it in conjunction to a good regular maint. routine.
