Anyone make a short 5th wheel with slides??

Well I swore I wouldn’t do this but the vortex of a Fox 1000 RZR is too powerful and pulling me in! :scared2:

I can fit my current 800-S in the bed of my truck and tow our Airstream but the 1000 is not going to fit in the bed of a truck.

We’re thinking about going all in and buying a 5th wheel toy hauler. There are only two of us and we will only be hauling the 1K RZR. Most of the nice 5th wheels with slide outs that we are seeing are monsters! 38 feet and up with sleeping for 8+ people! Someone must make a nice 28 - 30 foot fifth wheel with slides that is not designed to sleep your spouse and both sets of in-laws!… Is it too much to hope for a compact unit with triple slides?

Has anyone seen such an animal or am I asking for something the market does not supply? Any input would be greatly appreciated

Hey thanks for the link!
I just took a peek, however even their smallest unit (29UDQL5) is 35' 11".

I'm a Fifth Wheel newbie but I just see something so big a pain to get into a lot of the places we like to camp. Before our current Airstream we had a 38' diesel pusher with triple slides. It was nice once we got it parked, but a PITA to get into smaller / older campgrounds.

I agree about the triple in a small unit, but in reality most of the fifth wheels I'm seeing with triples the third slide is nothing more that the kitchen appliances moved out for more interior room. (Maybe it adds too much weight forward of the axles?)

The slide in most smaller toy haulers, limit greatly, the length of garage.
That's kind of what I'm afraid of... I'm out of the "norm" of what the builders are marketing too. There are only two of us, we want nice living & sleeping areas and only a small space for one RZR (10' max). A lot of these builders are designing to haul several toys and sleep a large group.

It seems like most of the newer designs are walling off the garage area so you get two very distinct areas.

I never under stood why someone couldn't make an opposing slide fiver, with BR slide, (3 total) 12' garage under 36'. Just make a shorter living room, leave the bedroom and shower alone. 34' Long would be an ideal target point for this, about 14K GVWR so a 3/4 ton diesel could pull it.

Gonna be real hard to find a fifth wheel toy hauler that short and be able to fit the 1000. U will need a 12ft garage. I am about to order either a jayco seismic or xlr thunderbolt with 12ft garage but they r both right at or over 38ft. U might can find one without a separate garage where the living area is in the garage. U can find them all day in a travel trailer th. One nice one that is smaller and will fit the 1k is lance's new trailer model

Have you put any thought into "tandem towing"? Not sure where you stay/ride, but just a thought.... I'll explain below.

This way you guys can find any 28-30' 5th wheel camper that best fits you and your spouse, and your desired living quarters floor plan, then just add a hitch / trailer wiring (~ $700-1000) and your favorite aluminum trailer/RZR 1000 and your set!!

Here is our current setup.....

We love this setup as it allows us to stay in just about any State Park or Private Camp Ground that isn't connected to a trail head. We just drop the toy (wheelers or RZR) trailer at the parking area, go park the 5th wheel in the camp site and then were set! Still have a vehicle to tour around if needed and can now tow the toy trailer without the need to 'pick up camp' every time you want to head to the trail head! for the days ride!

Not sure on your state towing laws, may want to check into that first.... but for us it works great!!

I have a friend who flat tows his Jeep TJ behind his 29 foot 5'r... The thing is like a land train going down the road but he gets it all to where he is going. He told me here in California there is a overall length max and you need either a class B or A license to pull it. Oddly enough in California it's perfectly legal for an 80 year old to get behind the wheel of a 43' tag axle diesel pusher with a car license!!! :scared2:

Our whole thought on going to a Fifth Wheel is we already have a nice diesel 4x4 pickup that is paid for. However if we have to upgrade to a 1 ton Dually just to pull a fifth wheel that is comfortable for us we'll probably go back to something like a 32V Southwind MH and tow a small trailer.

I'm not giving up just yet... I'll look at some of the 35 / 36 foot units before I decide. However just doing the math in my head I'd be over 50' hooked to my crew cab.

I do not remember seeing one. Most of your 36' are 10 foot garages. Longer gets longer. A KZ Sportsman Sportster is 34' with a 10'.
One possibility I can think of would be a Heartland Road Warrior 281 at 29'11".

Look into a custom race trailer. Not as flashy but alot of the manufactures will build one off trailers to meet your needs. Worth a call to some. Featherlite, haulmark, pace etc.

I have a vortex by Thor California I think they may have been bought out now but it's a 5th wheel 28ft with a 10 foot garage no slide outs but more then enough room. We commonly even cook and stay in there with the rzr loaded on some of the longer trips.

The reason for the slides is the amount of time we are in it.
We both work remotely so anywhere we have internet is our office. With this luxury of not being tied to a daily grind at one office location we are able to travel extended periods of time in our RV. (We are not full timers, but we are getting closer!)
Most of the triple slide units have a much larger kitchen counter / food prep area as the kitchen appliances slide out giving you an "L" shaped work space.
It's one thing to camp for a few days in an RV with a little kitchen and virtually no counter space, it something totally different to live in one for a month or more at a time. :)

I for one have had 2 campers and 4 toy haulers from many different manufactures, Imo they were all POS, When I'm ready for my next purchase I will be looking into a live aboard horse Hauler, very nice, sturdy and have many options, just a thought, good luck in your search

I was looking long time for simple 5th wheel with the 12' garage and two axles . Just get Sandstorm 350 GSLR with 2 slides, but even they call it 35' it is 39 ' long. Before I had Attitude 5th wheel 30 AKSG with slide in the bedroom which I would say past for short 5th. But I think now the Attitude have even smaller 5th wheel , like 28 ' long.

Well I think I found what I'm looking for.

It's not for someone with a family or a lot of toys to haul, but for just the two of us and one RZR it's as close to perfect as there appears to be available.

Specs:
Length: 34'9"
Weight unloaded: 10,000#
Max weight: 15,000#
3 slides
Great counter space in the kitchen (Spouse Approved!)
Queen bed
1.5 baths
10'1" (usable) garage

It was only manufactured for one year then discontinued and replace with a larger model. I assume they found the market for this smaller size trailer was not what the mass market wanted.

I've searched high and low and only found 4 of them for sale in the entire US so they are definitely not common place. We flew up to Washington last weekend to see one in person and loved it. The dealer actually towed it to the Polaris dealer so we could test fit a 1000 in the back! It fit with 2" to spare! :scared2:

I'm working with another seller in Texas as well, getting lots of high resolution pictures to help make a choice. They are asking $7000 less so it may be worth the extra drive. :drive1:

Hopefully I'll pull the trigger on one of them this weekend.
I'll post some pictures once the deal is done.

Now for the 1000

Sounds cool post up some pic's if you pull the trigger.
My crew cab jagged X takes every inch of my 12 foot garage! When went from quads to a rzr I wanted to be able to haul one of the quad's but it was not going to happen even with a 800 rzr.

Hey Cyberous, What mfg is it. I have been toying with the idea of down sizing cause the kids are groun and it's only my wife and I. I have a 36' weekend warrior bumper pull that is 40' with the young, plus my crew cab Duramax, it's probably 60' plus overall and I have a "non commercial" class A license to pull it because of the weight. I love the set up but my wife wants to do more beach camping, and it's tough to find spots to fit it. A 35' fifth wheel tows more like a 28' bumper pull in terms of length. The garage is a plus as opposed to my set up where I "convert" it although I do have 20' of cargo storage, my wife does not care for the length ot the conversion aspect. Plus, security is better with a garage, and you get the both of best worlds, enclosed lockable storage plus a very nice living quarters.
I was going to go with a 32' super C motor home and an enclosed trailer, but I already have a new Chevy Duramax. I would love to hear more about your solution, and if there is a garage big enough for my XPERIA 900 4 seater..
Good luck and enjoy!

How long is your 4 seater?
The garage is only 10' with a solid wall in the front in the unit.
Will it fit?

Ever considered this, cheaper than most toyhaulers...

24' Keystone Springdale, 12' Slide weighs 6800# empty, old couple had it, used it twice, we bought it for $10K. Added $2K in auto slider 5th wheel, added $300 2" hitch behind camper and I pull my 14' ATV/RZR trailer or my 18' bass boat.

Truck in front is a 2013 F150 Eco-Boost Max Tow package (425 foot pound torque at 2800 RPM) and tows both great.

Edit, with bass boat I am 7" under max tandem length in Missouri and specific reason for locating this length 5th wheel.

Take a look at Elevation line by Crossroads. They make a 2 axle toy hauler with a 12'1" garage that fits my 1000 xp4 barely but it fits. Nice part it doesn't sleep a dozen people and I can take the bed in the garage out and gain more height.

We actually decided to go a totally different direction. The first Airstream rally of the season was a few weeks back, on our way home from the event we both admitted the the Airstream culture is something we do not want to give up.

After a little thought we've just decided to keep our Airstream, buy a second trailer (toy hauler tow behind) and possibly rent it out when we are not using it. We're looking at the Sand Sport 19EX and the Attitude 19FB as a good fit.

For anyone reading this tread looking for that shorter 5th wheel, the unit I almost bought was an Evolution 3310. It has three slides and a 10' garage which is just barely long enough for a 1000 XP. It can be towed by most 3/4 ton trucks as it's under 10,000 dry and 15,000 GRVW. The only issue is they were only made in 2012 & 2013 and in small numbers.

The one I found in Oregon was in OK condition but the dealer was standing solid on $39,900... :rofl3: (Most of the owners I chatted with on the owners forum online who bought new said they paid $50,000 for theirs brand new with a 2 year warranty!)

I found one in Texas, but it sold for $32,000 before I could get a deal done on it.
