Another Fusion Stereo Install

Using grant22's great idea of the Fusion install in this thread http://www.rzrforums.net/lighting-stereo-electrical/33949-my-new-fusion-stereo.html I decided to pretty much copy his install. I found the newer version of the Fusion head unit on ebay and was able to get it for $225 which I thought was a pretty good deal. It really pushes the two 6 inch speakers in the polaris pods. A lot louder than my last setup of just the amp straight to the iPod.
And another good thing I found out last night is that my iPhone 4 works great in the unit. It reads the album and artist lists and everything. I was very impressed with the final product. The darker features of the newer model looks awesome with the LE.

Here you go. The speakers are not marine grade speakers because I didn't want white and they don't sound that great. The speakers I used have a plastic cone so they are some what water resistant. They are loud enough for my riding.

The pods are from Polaris. I was going to get the ones from SSV but you have to take out the glove box to use theirs and I kind of like the hard glove box.

If you wanted to run a sub I am sure you can, but for just two and maybe four little speakers the deck has enough power. I wouldnt get one for this set up but if you already had one why not hook it up!

A little late now but JBL has a marine certified line that is all black.
That would be a better option, but I do not think that a Marine speaker even sounds close to a normal car speaker. If you are not going to totally submerge it I don't see what the big deal is. But I am not a speaker guy. I just know that marine stuff I have heard sounds kind of muffled.
I am not sure of the part number. I already threw away the box. I just went to my local Polaris dealer and they had them in stock for the 2011's.

Just an update... I used the system formthe first time last weekend. Went to Moab and the system worked great. I used my iPhone 4 and the unit even charged it while playing music which helped out because I was using the phone as a gps too. So far so good with this set up. I have really
Liked it so far.
UPDATE - After only using the FUSION head unit 3-4 times last fall it no longer works. As stated in other posts it either shorts or a connection can be lost very easy. The vendor recommends a power regulator. I have followed power all the way in the unit but it will not turn on. It was recommended in another post that you have to turn off the unit before you turn off the RZR. Who can remember to do that every time?

Lame...on to find another head unit. And recommendations other than the typical Marine deck?
I didn't want to see this I just bought a Fusion for mine. Hope it holds up.
On a good note they have a warranty. I sent mine in with good initial communication from Fusion. I have read that you should put some sort of voltage regulator on the deck. Not sure what one yet but when I find out I will post.

If I didn't like the deck so much I wouldn't even mess with it but I really like the functionality of it....which doesn't mean much when it breaks!

I've been really happy with my Jensen HU.

I have a friend with that Jensen head unit. It seems to work out good for him. If getting the Fusion deck fixed does not work out I might go that rout.
Stprzr, well congrats on that stereo rig, it definitely looks nicer than the older one.

Sorry to hear about the power/blown issue. I heard what battery you are using may have something to do with it (optima I think).

I've had mine in for at least 50 hours of run time with no problems. It may have to do with the power source or power lead you are using. If you need, I'll look when I get home to see what lead I'm using for my stereo.
That would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. My battery set up is stock and the deck is connected up directly to the battery but does shut off with the key.

That might be the issue dude. I get home tomorrow. Pm me tomorrow or the next day to remind me.

Mine is also Keyed on/off, but it was a hot lead already in place. Did yu actually run a wire or did you use something that was existing under the dash?
The ground goes all the way back but I think the power splices into something under the deck. Probably the accessory plug.
Thanks, I like the clean look too. That is why I want to stick with it. I didn't install (local stereo shop) it so I don't know why they went all the way back but it is a fused line. But it didn't blow the fuse when my HU took a dump. Maybe its to big of fuse. I think it was a 25amp....maybe 20.
No because researching this issue online and there were many instances I found that were identical. More in the boating world but all the same symptoms. I traced the power into the unit and it stops in the circuit board.

I supplied all the hardware to the Stereo Shop. They just installed it. I would of liked to have installed the HU but it was a rush before a trip last year.
Well I'm stuck with the fusion hopefully it holds up. I built a custom fiberglass box for the roof. Its built to the fusion and 2 6x9's. Don't have any room for anything bigger. I already started glassing the box. I was going to just run the power off the amp power lead. Fusion has a fuse in the back. Ing power lead will be on a switch. Also built a 10" sub box for under the dash. I hope it sounds good have allot of time in it. I'll post pics when i'm done.
That sounds cool. I would for sure use some sort of regulator. I will post what Fusion tells me to use when I talk to them next.
UPDATE: I sent my head unit to Fusion and they fixed it under warrantee. I was pretty impressed with there communication. The whole transaction was surprisingly very painless. I am now looking to add a regulator mentioned earlier. I hope this fixes my issue because I like the stereo so much.

The deck was mounted in the rzr with the pure Polaris stereo mount. Pretty basic.

Good luck with your install.
