Just picked up the Rzr for the steering wheel recall (200miles in it). While it was there i ordered the lock and ride storage box. They said do you want is to put it on while it is here? I said sure.

They charged me $27.50 for labor. I have a “review” email in my inbox. It isn’t sitting right with me. Maybe I am wrong??

LinkedXJ - doesnt some of the blame lie on the dealer. Saying there is an install charge? Why the consumer to question everything. (Maybe as diceman says, in this day and age)

As a side note, they didnt update their hours on their voicemail, website or face book. So i made an extra trip to pick up because they were closed. ($50 of diesel and 2 hours of my time for the extra trip).

Might have to chalk up to the “new normal”. And find a different dealer.

It might be different if it was a more technical install then absolutely be charged
Lock n ride cooler is EZ and you purchased the part.
I bought my rzr 30 miles away
Same owner has a can am dealer here in town.
I drove my rzr to the cam am dealer and they towed my rzr to the polaris dealer 30 miles away for a recall and brought it back same day
no charge
And they also delivered my new rzr to my driveway when i bought it

I agree with this post, dealers literally try and rape anyone they can any way they can these days, my dealer charged me $300 to snap on the roof and put on a couple clamps, they tried to charge me $500 and I told them they were out of line for charging me that much, I was picking up the brand new machine that day and they offered to "throw my accessories on, I assumed since I was going going be writing a $31k check for machine and I also was going to be writing a check for the roof and window they could at least throw the crap on, but nope $300 labor and they also charged me $2000 for "freight and assembly" needless to say I'll never use them again, they also tried to charge me $3k for the extended warranty.....

I feel if the dealer knew you bought from them then they should’ve ate the whopping 27$ Little things like that go a long way with a customer to keep coming back.

heck our dealer, never bought a new unit from them, but we buy ALOT of parts from them, sends some customers to our shop lol. I guess we’re in debt to them to buy a new rzr from themin the future lol

Im not at all saying that i agree with them charging you because you did use them for the big initial purchase.
I would absolutely be annoyed my self. I bought my buggy new from my nearest dealer that i frequent often, and they have
never done any friendly free stuff for my self.
Im sure there are plenty of fantastic dealers out there that do that simple stuff without an issue and for free.

All im saying is, you could of easily asked a simple question to clear all of that up within about 19 seconds when that discussion took place.
With the way today is, there is absolutely no way you can expect something for free anymore.

Again, im just saying man.

I had a shop ( that I use to frequent) charge me 25 bucks to tighten a castle nut on a lower receiver. Was in route to the range when my buddy said he forgot his wrench. I told him let’s stop at the local shop. Literally 3 second job. I’ll never go there ever again. Guess it’s my bad for assuming it wasn’t a big deal.

Sometimes this kind of stuff rubs me the wrong way. I always think treating people the right way will pay off more in the end then nickel and diming everyone one to death. I once left a dealership I had used for a long time over a small fee. The service manage said I can't believe you are willing to leave us over $45.00. I said back to him, it is more telling to me you are willing to lose a customer of $45.00. $45.00 means more to me than it does to a huge dealership.

They were changing my wife's oil in her car and she called me and said "we need a new air cleaner and its $28.00" I told her to go ahead because I was out of town and couldn't check it myself. I knew it was close on miles. When she got home they had charged her $28.00 for the filter and $45.00 for 1/2 hour of labor because that's what the book says to charge for installing air filter. If I had made an appointment just to get an air filter I would have been fine with it. But to know they are charging me for an oil change and while they are standing around with their thumb up their ass waiting on my oil to drain they shouldn't be charging me labor again to snap in an air filter in less then a minute.

When I bought my Jeep I used a dealer almost 2 hours away just because they treat me right. I am losing money in the long run for some stuff. For example, I hear people all the time having to pay decent money to get their speedo reset on their Jeep when they change tires. I put larger tires on mine after I brought it home and they hooked up and adjusted it for free. They said you bought it from us were are not going to make you pay to plug in a tool for 30 seconds.

Another ripoff dealer. Mine installed my roof for free and treated me right when I bought my machine, which means I'll keep going back there even though it's an 80-mile drive...just so I don't give any money to ripoff RideNow. Yes, you should have asked, but that feeling that you were taken advantage of won't make you want to go back to that dealer and you'll tell friends and family not to go there, so they only hurt themselves in the long run.

So all you guys that are saying it’s a ripoff or scam, do you work for free? I sure don’t, I own a business and it’s insane to me what people expect to just be “thrown” in.

I get the consumer side but I also see the other side. If that dealer installs 10 coolers in one day, then they paid someone to work 2 hours or so with zero profit. Yes for the consumer they’re like oh what’s the big deal, it’s easy or oh it’s quick and simple. Easy and simple add up bc there are 20 guys during the day asking for the same thing.

I agree about not working for free.
But he did purchase the rzr and the accessory from that dealer.
I'm sure there's a portion of the dealer prep or profit that goes to customer service.
What if the op asked for help putting it in the back of the rzr? Do they fill out a work order? or just help the guy out?

I have a business too and sometimes people stop me and ask questions or to adjust something. I don't send them a bill. That's why i have the same customers for over 10 years. I take care of them. Maybe that's why I'm not rich lol

I bought a bike from a local dealer. Went back and asked the manager to come out and listen to my bike. After 15 minutes of his time he didn't go back in and get a bill for me for $27.50.

I think it is their right to be able to charge for it.
I think it is bad business to charge for it. It is money well spent because now you know who you are dealing with.

It is a shame, these dealers have now become just like car dealers. My local dealer now charges a "diagnostic fee" just to take a look at my RZR. Set up, documentation fee are all pure profit. Most companys have a program that includes or reduced freight. I purchased my RZR out of state just because of all the BS charges.

I wouldnt have had them do it to begin with, hell just set it in there, line up the holes and depress the plungers. I like doing this stuff myself to get familliar with the machine. Ordered a few things with my new pro and told the dealer I'd rather install the goodies myself. Yeah I know they'll do it for free but I'd just rather do it.

They should have told ya tho..

At my shop I always let every customer know exactly what the parts and labor costs are before the work is done. Saves a ton of bad feelings and it is the way business should be done. It is too bad that a lot of places money is the number one driving factor every day when they open the door. I don't begrudge any business for making a profit, that is why they are there, but doing it in a honest way with integrity means more to me.

I bought a used Harley from a local dealer a couple years ago.
I went in and asked if they can change out some rzr tires for me. They said sure as long as you just bring in the wheels and tires.
Went to pick up the wheels and tires and I said what do i owe.
They said Merry Christmas EZ.
A good word of mouth especially in a small town is worth more than any advertising.
A bad word travels fast

If you go from your local dealer, and pay an inflated price, then I agree that they should not nickel and dime you. That’s bad business and makes for unhappy customers.

But if you beat them up on price, or make them price match a high volume dealership like i69 don’t expect to get everything else for free.

They have to make their money from somewhere.

I69 installed all my accesories for FREE when I bought a new RZR. Edit to say that I did negotiate that into the deal since they will not budge on price.

With a $27.50 bill they didn't exactly gouge you. If they would've charged you an hour's labor rate of say $100.00 then I would be bent out of shape. While you didn't tell them not to install it you also didn't tell them not to install it. You may be able to talk to them and tell them that you only wanted them to place the order for the part and you had intended to install it yourself so you shouldn't have to be responsible for the labor charge. Now if they say tough cookie then you need to make sure the next time you go there you tell them specifically what you want and what you don't want and make sure it's clear for both you and them so there are no hard feelings.
