That is one of the most reliable cars they have made to date. I put 3500 miles on mine before I sold it and the only thing that ever went wrong was the throttle sensor. I didn't even break a belt. Great car. Good power and super reliable.

 

4500 miles on mine no problems. Keep oil and air filter clean. Mine is a 4 seater haven't seen anything more reliable made yet so gonna keep the old girl for quite a while.

 

I feel the most common problem with the rzr xp 900 was the air filter. If it is not sealed properly dust can get by and into the engine.

 

As DWSrzr said, the air filter is a weak point. Desert Molding Concepts/Desertcraft makes an affordable gasket upgrade that will prevent problems. I'm a bit over 3500 miles with no problems, just fun!

 

I loved mine but I got caught up with keeping up with the jones so I bought a 1k. 2500 trouble free miles before I sold it. Very solid machine. Grease the air filter and change it often and it will last a long time

This is the main issue that I've had.

 

Cam chain tensioner and intake boots. Other than that they are excellent

Here is a link to the R2C filter for the XP900. We worked with R2C to make a thicker lip for a better seal around the air box. The R2C filter is made with synthetic material and is easily cleaned by blowing from the clean side out or vaccumm from the dirty side. Filters better than the paper filter.

The intake boots, wheel bearings, carrier bearing, tie rod ends are things to keep an eye on.

In fact, it wouldnt hurt to dis-assemble the machine up to the airboots between the throttle body and head annually for inspection. Mine failed and cost big bucks for a complete engine rebuild. all over a 29 dollar rubber part.

 

Watch the rear motor mounts, they tear on occasion.

Relocate the circuit breaker that is wrapped in tape just below the battery, because they go bad.

Otherwise enjoy! Put nearly 4000miles on my 2013 before I got a new 4seater.

 

Since my original post , I have upgraded to the R2C filter, did the loc tite on the starter bolt idler, inspected intake boots and pretty much entire machine. I feel like its good to go now,. I appreciate all the input .Thanks again ,

Some said the air cleaner issue happened when too much gear was stored on the bed. too much weight and somehow it would push on the air cleaner. The other issue I have had (and others too, I hear) is the hydraulic brake sensor, which detects the brake is being pushed during startup, tends to fail. The way u tell is u have to push the brake real hard in order to start the rzr.

Keep thinking about "upgrading", but too many people tell me they miss their xp900's. the 4 seater xp900, imo, was the best rock climber Polaris ever made.
xp900's drive like a nimble go cart, whereas the newer, bigger machines feel like driving yellow school buses!!! ha ha

 

Ive ridden with a couple 900xps in the past. The weakest link for where we ride seemed to be the radius arms. They will bend fairly easily if under a significant shock. Plenty of aftermarket ones available.

 

The OEM rear axle shafts will turn into egg beaters if your not careful with catching air and landing with the power on.

Plenty of heavy duty aftermarket ones out there to pick from.

They are the only things I've had to replace on my Orange Madness.

 

6000+ miles on my 2012 just rebuilt top end due to dust intake I'd recommend an aftermarket intake. I went with K&N but haven't had it out since rebuild to see how well it works

 

The starter intermediate gear shaft loosens up and breaks on the 2011/2012 models also the cam chain tensioner do some google searches on both of these issues
