570 Quit Running and Won't Start or Fire

Weird deal. Was leisurely driving around the yard with my daughter, and went to load the 570 back in the trailer. On the way up the ramp, it died and rolled back down. No sputtering or any other indications, it just died. I tried starting it, and immediately noticed something different. For one thing, the starter sounded completely different. It didn't sound like it was working very hard, and I didn't hear the normal blub, blub, blub, blub, when it turned over (don't make fun of my engine sound, as I have a very sick feeling right now). Instead, the engine turned over without the sound of valves opening and closing. I had my wife turn it over while I held my hand under the exhaust to see if I could feel any exhaust. I did, but it wasn't the pop, pop, pop that I expected. Instead it was a series of very quick puffs. Is it possible the timing chain jumped? Looking for any input, or if anybody has experienced anything similar. It's a 2012 model.

Something weird happened to mine the other day. Went to start it and it sounded like it had no compression. Cranked over and over and no fire. I stopped cranking and waited a bit. Tried again and it fired right up. I am not sure what happened, if maybe something weird is happening with the compression release. Only happened to me 1 time so far. But it was un nerving. DO the basics, check for spark and fuel. See if the plug is wet with fuel. Pull the valve cover and see if you can see anything weird in there. Good luck.

Exactly! It sounds like a compression release sticking. Does the 570 have a compression release? It's dark, and wasn't able to check everything you mentioned. Probably will this weekend. Hopefully someone else has had this happen and can shed some light on the topic. Appreciate the feedback.

2012 does not have the vane sensor, but they all have compression release.

Sounds more like the compression release is working but not getting spark to the plug or proper fuel. Also could be the compression release is sticking open. Has the oil/filter been changed regularly, as it's an internal engine component in the exhaust camshaft?

Oil and filter have been changed regularly. The starter is flinging the engine much faster than normal (like there's significantly less compression). Also sounds completely different than it use to. Something is definitely different. Going to check plug and fuel later today. Will let you know what I find out. Thx

New NGK plug. Have fuel. Have spark. About every 1 in 6 times I try starting it, the first two cranks sound normal (bulb blub), and then on the third crank and on, the starter rpms slightly increase (like there's less drag) and there's more of a puff puff sound. Pulled the valve cover off. I don't see anything glaring at me. Where's the compression relief valve, and how can you determine if it's working like it should?

Built into the exhaust valve camshaft.

Is it possible your engine got "dusted"?

Extended warranty?

If the valve shaft isn't bent (and therefore the piston damaged) there are a few tricks to changing the spring and keepers w/o pulling the head. Some kind of borescope to inspect the piston. Fitting and compressed air for the plug hole (as HondaRacer mentioned) to keep the valve from falling in. Tool to compress the spring to remove keepers. Apologies if this is old news to you,,,

Well... Finally got some time to tear the engine down. Driver's side exhaust valve spring broke. Fortunately, the valve didn't drop into the piston. I just ordered all my parts (about $200). Replacing all springs, seats, seals, gaskets, etc while I have it apart. I have NO idea why this broke. I would've understood if I was at redline and doing something stupid. I wouldn't call loading it on a trailer any of those things. I guess I could've been a LOT worse.
