Recently I have heard from several different folks that there is a push afoot to do away with the 50 inch trails. Allowing for wider machines and more stability... and I suspose performance stuff as well. Personally, I am satisfied with today's set up.

A question... Has anyone heard of such talk or push?? Opening up current trails from 50 to 60 inches ?? or something like that??

I have only ridden in Arizona, so I don't have knowledge of other states.

Thanks.

Very few of the places that we look at to ride have that restriction. I knew going in that getting my "S" I would not be able to ride every place we want. So far Wayne National Forest (Ohio) which has a 50" limitation by rule and some areas up in Michigan just because the trails were built way to narrow for even a standard RZR are the only ones I can think of. We just got back from Ozark National Forest in Arkansas and Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky. There are no restrictions at either place. Both are easily ridden with a XP also.

I ride Idaho a lot. The rule is there for a reason. On many trails there simply isn't enough room for anything wider. Anything wider would go over a cliff, or ram into trees that are 51 inches between them. I can barely squeeze my 50 incher through. Those places aren't going to change anytime soon. Nor should they, IMO.

Not all but most places that are 50 inch limits are state and federal riding areas. As much as I would like to see it happen I am just happy the continue to keep them open in this political and economic climate.

As the Rhino gained popularity and started to show up in huge numbers, i kinda expected to see this happen.

Now that the 50"er is big business for Polaris ( and soon, Arctic Cat ), i don't think it will. Certainly, i don't see those manufacturers getting behind it now.

Not that it would take that much to do. Honestly, on most of the "50 trails I've been on ( including western NC where i grew up ), the only thing that would have stopped a Rhino or vehicle of similar size was the actual Gate/rock entrances.
