381 miles on new machine with no air filter

So I still have 5 hours until my first service (according to the owners manual) and I have been out of town for almost a month and so I pulled my machine out to clean it (which I did) I checked the oil (good), and then decided to just check the air filter on a whim, and then I noticed there was no air filter... the inside of the airbox was dusty to say the least. I took a photo of it, and then cleaned it out and rolled it back into the garage. I have not been in sand, just on dirt trails, but some parts were very fine dust.

So... I am obviously going to talk with the dealer tomorrow morning, but I can already see where that might go, and then I will escalate it with Polaris. I would be concerned after a year or so if any damage occurred from no air filter from factory or dealer. Very, very frustrated right now.

My question, has anyone had this issue? and if it were you, what would you be doing?

Thanks.

I have stated over the years to always completely check your machine yourself...

Don't leave it to the service tech !!!

Once you accept delivery it's your baby and no one to blame except the guy in the mirror...

Not blaming you, Polaris Quality Control and most Dealers Quality Control with P & A Checklist is "ZIPPO" ...

If Polaris invested some of their record profits in a Quality Control Department they would make most owners Happy ....

To many of the same complaints Over and Over to have anyone in QC who really cares !!!

Should not have cleaned the box. Going to be on you to prove there never was a filter. I would want another engine or machine. Be sure and change the oil several times with short runs in between. Do a compression check to establish a base line. Compare with a brand new machine to see what damage may have occurred. Some one goofed big time. Find out if the factory signed off on a filter installed and if the dealer did. Polaris makes a tough engine. May be OK but how much dirt got in the oil? How much internal damage has been done, if any? That is a tough one. Good luck with the dealer and Polaris.

OMG really I would have never cleaned it and went back and demanded another machine if your Dealer can't check the filter on un crating it what makes you think they can change your engine right. take a bore scope and look down the tube and see how much dirt got in there. Never trust anyone always check your own machine sad but true

After every ride I vacuum off my filter and then Lighlyt blow air on the inside out. Now I could never imagine what would be in there after than many miles. And even if they extend your warranty and in a couple months it blows up and they pull there typical bs and say you didn't run with a clean filter and there's dirt in it and they won't honor the warranty. May sound extreme but extending your warranty to make you happy in the short run but in the long run screw you and still come back to blame you. Happens all the time.

Should we be expecting a Craigslist ad for lightly used RZR, never been abused, all maintenance just completed with new air filter? Damn that sucks. Just bad luck, to be honest I think I pulled mine first day just to check machine out. Never would have thought it would be missing. Kind of like how they forget to grease all the zerks.

I dropped it off at the dealer this afternoon and they told me they would "look into it and contact Polaris." And then he gave me a filter... thanks.

He also said this was not the first time this has happened. Wow... I am just curious if Polaris employs anyone for QC or if it's just the "we sell 5 to 1" mentality so F.U.

That Maverick is looking mighty good right about now. I'll just have to wait and see what the dealer comes back with.

So. Much. Fun.

BTW, I purchased this 2015 4 1000 brand new on June 12th of this year and there was no "sign off" papers I had to sign. Before I took delivery, I also had the dealer install a street legal kit. Three days later, they then dropped it off at my home, I was handed the keys and told "she's ready for a rip in the canyon!"

Should I have looked for an air filter before turning it over for the first time? looking back I would say yes, but honestly, I would bet that it's a very, very small percentage of folks that would even think to check that. Lesson learned I suppose.

One of the first things they told me when I picked mine up was that the filter should be checked and replaced frequently. The salesmen at Burts mega mall opened it up and pulled it out and showed me how it went back in. One of the first things I did was pull the plastic ring off and put a hose clamp on the filter before it ever saw the dirt.

I hope Dave takes care of you. He gave me a very thorough PDI. He took the the bed piece off and opened the top clips on the air filter to show me where it was. I was surprised it was not a panel style filter from looking at the box. Shows me the clutch tool and how to use it, glove boxes, shock adjustment, tire pressure, seat belt limiter, under the hood to check antifreeze. Very good. I have to take it in for my first service next week. I have one shock that only has 6 clicks compared to all the rest with 16 I think. One thing to note is he stores his outside. Would not be hard for someone to steal a filter.

This is the experience I had with Ridenow Goodyear. They walked through everything. Now that you mention it, I do remember them pulling air filter cover off to show me where it was and remind me to stick with Polaris Air Filter. He even showed me the dip stick and reminded me to ensure it is locked down when I check oil.
