I know a lot of people have a 30" light bar. Does your's have a high pitched humming noise when it is turned on, or is it completely silent? It is not loud but you can hear it.
I dont want to start going through my wiring if all the bars have this noise when turned on.
I have 4 totron bars and none of them make any noise a 30",20",10" and 6" single row. All mine are grounded to the frame, then I run the ground off the toggle switch also.
dopey idea mister
try a fast test
get an extra wire 4' long. hook it straight to the battery neg post. take ground post neg off and use the new ground.
report back.
without knowing more it sounds like you could be inducing noise into the circuit at the block.
i have a couple different light bars. My Rigid doesnt do this but BBM and another ebay knock off have the hum. I might try grounding to the fram also but I called the dealer back for the BBM and they didnt seem too concerned, i ran it for about 8 hrs now and no problems and you dont hear it when the machine is on anyways
I tried a few different ground locations. All had the hummmmm except one ground that wasn't great. There was no hum but the lights were not as bright as the ground block or other locations.
I agree that you can't hear it when the machine is on, I just wanted to make sure the noise wasn't a issue that could effect the light bar.
Also another weird thing Ive been thinking about my 30inch light should pull like 13.8 amps I have a 10amp fuse in my block and it has never blown, even after over an hour of strait on. Does that mean my light is derating and not pulling full current maybe causing the hum?
I am surprised you get away with a 10 amp fuse, but lower does make some sense. Most people divide the wattage they pull by 12 to get amps. So a 180 watt bar, they figure is 15 amps. Well....not running your battery should be about 12.5 volts, and running it should be about 14-14.5 volts. So if you divide the 180 watts by 14.5 you get 12.4 amps. So a 15 amp fuse should be plenty...10, not so much.
I talked to a friend that has a 50" on his jeep that was having the same issue. He told me that if you put foam or something to fill in or cover the fins on the back side that it will eliminate the noise. I havent tried it myself
Ya I saw that somewhere else too? I was under the impression that was for the whistle noise the wind makes while rolling over the sharp edges.. Your saying this is for the noise the circuit board makes inside the bar while turned on?
ive had 1 or 2 bars do this. all I sell is totron. on one here locally we changed the ground, and made sure all the connections were 100%. it stopped. I never heard back from the other customer.
