I think a lot of people are missing the market the wolverine was designed for.
Duner,,,,,, 700cc single cylinder? Obviously not.
Desert racer,,,,, 700cc single cylinder with a bed and upright seats. Definitely not.
Trail machine,,,, 700cc single cylinder with a bed and upright seats, easy in and out, room to haul your stuff, good smooth controlled ride with enough wheel travel and enough speed to keep up with almost everyone that rides tight eastern trails, no matter where they go and not have to put up with the disadvantages of a sport UTV? Yes.

The closest public riding area to me is over 2000 acres with miles and miles of trails and there is not one trail in the whole place where a person in a RZR 1000 can use full throttle over 5 seconds without having to let off and slow down, yet everyone thinks they need a SPORT UTV? NOT

I agree. Hey, I'm happy to see new utv's designed for east coast trails 'cause that's where I live and ride!

Has anyone else heard any whispers on what Yamaha has up their sleeve next ? My local dealer told me there was two new models to be announced after the Wolverine was released... he was pretty tight lipped on what they would be .

"LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Yamaha told dealers this week that the new Viking side-by-side is the first in what will be a series of new-model intros in this sector through 2018.
Dealers saw the four-wheel-drive vehicle for the first time June 11 at the company’s national dealer meeting in Las Vegas, where Yamaha announced that it will be unveiling a new side-by-side model every year for the next five years. "

Out of curiosity I went to the Kawasaki site to check specs on the Teryx, including their Sportier model, the LE.

60" wide on them too. bucket seats. 26" bighorns, 8" of shock travel.

but also noticeably absent were any specific mentions of HP or Torque.
Just "20% more power than ever before !!"

All the info in the world though on payload and towing capacity.

pretty much just like the Yamaha web brochure.

Would you compare a Teryx LE to a RZR ? Thats contrast, not compare.
Would you compare a Ranger to a Teryx... of course.

Guess who has 60" width, 26" bighorns and 10" of shock travel , and EPS and a significant payload capacity? (oh and isnt afraid to mention their HP rating either)
yup: RANGER XP 900 EPS

Ranger, Wolverine, Teryx... those are the same class. RZR does not fit in there.

Polaris has been kicking it with 50" RZRs since 2008. Why would Yamaha be nervous to enter what is now a proven class of vehicles; I find it tough to buy that they are still scared of roll over lawsuits in only the 50" class. They cant keep up with Polaris or Arctic Cat who are doing nicely with the 50" ?

I can agree with most everything you say except the last sentence. If (when?) Yamaha produces a 50" sxs, they wouldn't be keeping up with Polaris or Arctic Cat, they would be ahead of them...

You missed Robb's well reasoned post.

huge hp is not what the Wolverine is designed for, it doesn't require it.

there is no dump bed on the Wolverine.

fan boy? that's so 2012.....

I am a member on Wolverine forum. It was started by the same fellow who started this one.

dump bed forum, hmmm. I'm a member of prcforum, you know, Polaris Rangers, they have dump beds...

maybe you should talk to the op of this thread about why he posted a forbidden Yamaha thread on rzrforums...

there are many other threads on this forum, you don't have to read this one. you obviously don't read every post on this one...

delusional... like expecting intelligent conversation from some members on this forum, yea....

a new side-by-side model every year for the next five years. "
1 per year ???

2016 = this turd

2017 = another turd

2018 = who knows??

I'm not waiting around on Yamaha-Loser Ville... by 2018 Polaris, CanAm and maybe even Arctic Cat will be over 150hp.

I'm looking for SPORT UTVs.

They're plenty of dump beds already out there to choose from.

This is RZR forum for SPORT enthusiasts.

Sounds like some Yama-Fan boys need join the Wolverine forum. Or the Dump Bed forums.

Just my opinion.. I call 'em as I see them, no brand loyalty... I own a yamaha VXR jetski (180hp) ... I wish we as consumers had more SPORT options. As of NOW, there's still only 3 players !

I'm not saying you guys who like this turd can't go buy it. Knock yourself out. But you guys coming on here as acting like this is even in the ball park of something a RZR owner would enjoy.... you guys are delusional.

.

Yamaha builds all the rzr engines using rotax parts, they have a special key for the 200 hp version that is only offered to the most informed commenters on forums, that's why you have never seen one...

Short of a spy sighting the mfg's appear to be silent even to dealers on whats coming. The few that may know thru testing are sworn to secrecy.

I'm not in the loop on anything now but you are correct , if you get chosen for a test panel , they do a real good job of explaining that they are very good at finding the people who talk and will prosecute ... Let's face it Obama says they economy is back and the money is flowing so look for maany new and exciting things to come...

dunno wat a yammer is but the Wolverines will be so far ahead you'll never see them...........

Actually the yammer is a new concept. Adds the sport mini van option in a new 6 seat coming soon. If someone shows up on one of our RZR rides with one of these turds they either keep up or find their way back. We ride with Can Am and Wildcats and they do very well. We are just not into slow, top heavy, utility golf cart log wagons :rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

no offense but that sounds like a horrible group to ride with.... in our groups we ride with kawi's, polaris, can ams, hondas, yami's you name it, who cares what you ride as long as your riding.... we tow each other out of mud holes and make fun of each others machines but its all in good fun

yea that's how our group rides also, takes all types of people and machines to make it fun!

Wow! 85 HP out of a 1 lunger? Like 2 HP per cubic inch. Enter the solid lifter 1969 302 Chevy territory.
No way they going get 85 hp out of that thing... I don't see it happening... IF you DID, it'd be very unreliable... and no one wants unreliable recreational vehicle... you might need to tow some tree limbs or do some work around the farm.... you've got to keep the reliability, the yamaha legendary reliability.

:rofl3:
The 708 cc Wolverine motor can easily be built to make 75-85 HP and be every bit as reliable as it is stock. It's called using a flow bench and knowing how to port a head. My Rhino 660 was bored/stroked to a 780 and was easily making 75 HP and this was 7-8 years ago. I beat on it for 7 years and never had a single problem of any kind. I call that pretty reliable. A lot of my friends had Rhino's that were bored/stroked to 800's that were equally as reliable.

As long as you don't get crazy with compression you can build a very reliable motor making very good power, esp these 660/686 and I assume this 708 motor because they are low revving, low compression motors. It's the 450 motors that rev up to 12-13k RPM's and running 14/1 and 15/1 pistons that become hand grenades.
