2015+ Engine problems?

Hey guys I have an elementary question for you. I have been researching on a side x side to purchase (used ideally). I read and heard of alot of problems with the motors in the 900 rzr (possibly the 1st generation 900's?). It seems some guys have had no problems, while others have prematurely destroyed there motors and Polaris is saying water and or dirt got through the intake so no warranty. My question is what has changed on the 2015+ 900's? Are people still seeing the same problems? ie. failed crank, scored cylinder bores, etc.

I relize this is probably the wrong place to ask the question (go easy on me). What are your thoughts on the Wildcat Sport?

The early 900's pre 15 had a bad air box desing that would allow dirt to get pass the filter under wide open throttle. I had added a aftermarker seal on my 2012 900 and never had an issue in 2,500 miles. The newer 900 has a re designed air intake that looks to be a much better design. I would'nt go with the wildcat personally, seems like they have bigger engine issues that anyone.

The new 900 is a beast!! Granted mine did have an oil pump problem. It was the first documented oil pump issue according to what Polaris tech told me. They took care of it. I have never heard of any major issues with the new 900. After talking with three reputable engine builders and dealer techs, none of them said there were any issues with the 900. It is a very good, solid, and reliable engine. I would buy one again in a heartbeat!!

Thanks
Thom

Thanks for all the reply's. Attached is a thread on here that refers to some of the problems people have been having.

I would have to agree with you waffles222. From what I have read some of the problems seem to be from dirt getting into the cylinders causing scoring which obviously causes oil consumption. But what doesn't add up is why crankshafts are failing? A little dirt getting through the intake doesn't cause a crank to fail.

Ya, that thread refers to the "first gen" pre '15 900. Still a good engine. Just some filtration problems. I know that my 15 900 4 uses a setup that is similar if not the same as the current 1000. No issues with mine at all. There is always room for improvement but the current factory setup does a decent job.

Thanks
