well, after one ride (about 30 miles), I pulled the air filter to have a look, and it wasn't good. my intake must have separated at that stupid o ring at some point, because i checked it before we left and it was fine.
I thought about calling the dealer, but figured they would just reassemble it and that wasn't gonna satisfy me.
So I hit the hardware store today and headed for the plumbing aisle with my tape measure in hand.
Here's what you need to buy:
(2) 2"x2" flexible rubber couplers
(1) 2"x2ft. pvc pipe
(1)2" 45 degree pvc elbow
some glue & primer
(1) can of Krylon Fusion Paint for plastic
About $25 for everything
1st thing to do is cut 1 piece of pvc 6 7/8" long. This will attach to the air box lid.
Next cut a piece 5 1/2" long - this will attach to the duct work above the left rear wheel.
Here's what you should end up with:
Glue it together - should look like this:
I scuffed everything down with some 220 and then wiped it down with some thinner to clean it, then painted it Orange since I have an LE model and besides it's just to darn cool:rofl3:
Next install one rubber coupler on the air box lid. It will be a nice tight fit when it goes on and tighten it with the supplied hose clamps.
After the paint has dried, loosen up the hose clamps and slip the other rubber coupler onto the 5 1/2" piece and slide it down towards the 45 degree elbow. Slip the 6 7/8" piece into the coupler on the air box lid and twist the pipe to line it up with the ductwork above the wheel. It should be a real close fit. Once lined up, slide your rubber coupler up and onto the duct work and tighten everything up. All done, complete and a nice sealed intake pipe - kinda the way the factory should have done it in the first place
Thats it, all there is to it. You can probably do it in about 45 mins including drying time for the paint.
