Do a search on the forum for heatshield their are several write up's about it and some things you can do to help.Their is also a heat build up behind the passenger seat

 

Typical Polaris.....you buy them and rebuild them !

 

I had the same problem until I got the bed heat shield from UTV.inc. Made a huge difference.

 

X2. I have the RZR4 and had the heat issues. Melted a cooler. The shield from UTV Inc. solved the problem and is only a two beer install.

 

My wife put a pair of nylon fleece pants behind the passenger seat and they melted. Also caused the engine access panel to melt in the upper corner. I suppose if you had the right combustible material tucked behind the passenger seat it could ignite.

 

Yup, you need to get heat shields... there are any number of the available.

Also, when you get home from a ride and the machine has fully cooled, wash the engine compartment well.

That way all the mud doesn't keep the heat from dissipating.

Ditto on the UTVinc bed heat shield! Got one for mine not to long ago and it makes all the difference in the world.

 

One other heat related tip...
If you're riding on trails, etc with a lot of brush, leaves, twigs, etc... Everytime you stop you should check the exhaust area for debris. I've seen a few small leaves turn to embers on the exhaust header heat sheild.

The UTV heat sheild does a really good job.

 

The bed of my 2012 800 burnt pretty badly. The dealer said that it was because I had grass stubble in the heat shield. Thank god for insurance. Around 6 months after my fire, my brothers 800 bed melted in the exact same spot where my fire started. Polaris makes a heat shield that was installed by warranty.

 

Had a plastic trash bag in the back of mine with some trash we picked up on the trail. Went to grab it after our ride and the damn bag was melted to the bed. That was on my 2011 RZR S. I am a HVAC metal guy so I made my own shields.

 

I talked with the dealer today and the only suggestion they had was to sell me some heat tape for the pipes and under the bed.
Seems like this is a problem that polaris should be aware of and they should take care of it.

 

There's a thread on there somewhere that I outline how/where to file complaints of this nature.

 

The part that makes you mad is to see the TV dinner sized shield from the factory.

 

Well...you know...they probably on plan on you riding 10 miles a day, and stopping every half hour to take pictures, snack and nap...so the the bed won't get hot.

Hey! sounds like my kind of riding

 

on the factory shield there is an 1 1/4 hole right above the muffler on my 2011. i turned it around took the machine to the trails for about an hour and half. I opened up the storage box and it was lukewarm as compared to before. Dealer told me that hole was for something but couldn't remember what so until then I have a cool storage box.

 

My brother sent me some photos of a 2012 rzr 800 that was camped next to him that had a hole burned thru the bed and melted the bottom of the lock and ride box that was in the bed.

 

2010 RZR S melted a trash bag and a new fleece jacket. I too installed a heat shield from UTV inc. Problem solved!

 

I have decided to leave mine as is and use it to heat up TV dinners and Pizza while I ride. Actually I am in process of DIY fix with Aluminum from hardware store and Thermo-Tec 13575 12" X 24" Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier from Amazon.
