I'm new to the rzr and the forum..just got a new 2011 and I really want to like it. I have read posts till I'm blue in the face and I still can't find exactly what I'm looking for.
The engine cutting out....now I can understand this if your at or close to top speed but not from a dead stop...mine does it from 0 to 60 as long as the pedal is on the floor.

I don't know if I'm the only one, but not really sure what you're saying above about the condition. Can you repeat that with more detail. Might get some more responses if it's easier to understand exactly what the issue is.

So your engine is cutting out at various point on the RPM curve...it runs, then stops and runs again. It does it from idle too?

Just bring it right back to the dealer for full review. Unacceptable IMO. You don't want to pay for parts or your time on this. It's a brand new machine......or did this just start happening and you got the '11 last year?

Stupid, but did you make sure something is not stuck, clogging the air supply. Pull the filter out and look in there, make sure it's clean.

Verify your plugs are on tight, check your wires to ignition. Check fuel pressure....gas filter, bad gas (drain it),injectors might be plugged somehow. If no warranty left, you're going to have to start pulling it apart and checking everything from simple on up.

Yeah, bring that chit right back to them for repair on their dime. Hope it's not too far for you to drive it. Probably something stupid and a easy fix. It never should have left the dealer like that. Clearly they didn't take it for a spin before it left.

Sounds like a clutch/belt issue to me and when you nail it, it sounds like your bumping off the rev limiter. I think that's where turkey is going with his questions too.

look at your RPM's when it's cutting out....does it shut down or just sound like it's stuttering and holds around 6200 rpms?

Mine does that if I'm on gravel or loose dirt because its spinning the tires and bumping the rev limiter. First time it happend I thought something was wrong til i realized what it was. Wont do it on pavement or firm ground. Watch your tach and see what its reading, i bet your spinning or belt is slipping?

oh ok. Might just try to see the tach when it happens. If its tached out against the rev limiter it wouldnt likely be gas. Sure sounds like its revving to quick by slipping if its fine under steady throttle. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

My 1 week old 2011 does the same thing as the OP, if I understand him correctly. From a dead stop, nail the gas. What I am positive is happening with mine is I am bouncing it off the rev limiter. My brothers and a friends both do this too. We all got them last week. What is happening is the belt is slipping in the primary clutch. The weights in the clutch are not heavy enough to firmly grip the belt and the engine over-revs. Polaris has always had issues on snowmobiles exactly like this. I always do my own clutching on sleds, and I guess I will have to do it with the rzr too. I have a good feeling that there is ALOT to be gained by some good clutching.

BTW mine does it on pavement or dirt too. Dirt or mud I could understand because maybe the wheels are spinning. But pavement, it is completely clear that the belt is slipping and not the tires.

Also I noticed that you said it does it at all speeds under WOT. I would be willing to bet your primary has alot of rubber build-up on the sheaves already.

Interesting these are all brand new machines. My '11 doesn't do this at all (purchased in Sept of '10). He said earlier that it cuts out "immediately".....Can he be hitting the limiter that fast within the first second he nails it? If it is hitting, then it must be slipping really bad. Belt is probably trashed if it's not bad gas, or some other electrical issue.

Rong: I've had three Polaris sleds and no issues with clutches slipping either...

I bought my rzr 2 weeks ago brand new. It is a 2011 rzr le with power steering. Well yesterday it was wet out side and I was riding it. It really seemed to be hitting the rev limiter a lot. On the pavement it did not do it. But running in an open field it was really hitting the limiter. It was the first time I noticed it. Very annoying. I have a grizzly 700 too and this is my first polaris. I am not use to hitting a rev limiter like that. I thought the plug was fouling out or had a bad wire at first. I guess it was just the limiter base on what I am reading.

I am not sure what rpm it was at when it was happening. I checked it yesterday in dryer conditions and it performed like it should. I noticed that it hits the limiter above 6300 on mine. Maybe 6400. Does that sound right?

I was hoping there was an answer too, glad to see i'm not the only one, I've got a 2011 LE, haven't checked what the tach is doing, but generally it's cutting out at the higher end when I have it pinned, and it's only been used on loose ground. I'll have to try it on pavement to see how it reacts, just wanted to see if anyone else was having a similar problem before I rushed to the dealer.

Ours does not ever cut out unless our speedo's are almost at 70. We do seem to have some type of limiter on takeoff that our 09's did not have. I wish I could get rid of it since it is really annoying. Our 11's act like my stock Brute on take off with its limiter.

new guy here,
just bought a 11 rzr myself and mines doing the same thing
mine hits the limiter if i mash the gas hard, but if i hit it slower and ease into it it will be fine and accelerate fine, but mash it hard to the floor at about 20 MPH it will hit the limiter, back off and pedal it,it will accelerate up to 50mph and hit it again, pedal it and its fine....i would say the secondary is the culprit, needs a stiffer spring to me...but have been wrong before....talked to my dealer and they told me the belt has a 50 mile break in period, but they want to look at it regardless...i got around 56 miles on mine as of now....i have used it a little hard but have not thrashed it so they might cover it,might not.....

mine ended up being the belt, changed it and its fine now
