Sounds like the fuel pump crapped the bed

 

I just put a new one on it but I will try to find a tester today to check the pressure.i just replaced the pump not the regulator.

 

You need to do a compression check first. Even cold will be enough to tell if the top end is shot with no compression.

 

it huffs and puffs like it wants to start and seems to idle alittle would it still do that with low compression?

 

I just put the fuel pressure tester in the truck so I will check that tonight. what should my numbers be.

 

When one buys a first year 800, that should be the first thing one does. Stongle suspect it has a very weak top end.

 

If you have weak compression you can waste a lot of time and money thowing parts at it with no good results. Start with the basic and work out from there. Check compression first.

 

I will find a compression tester tonight. Who do you recommend get a decent top end kit from. It won't be race or mud rig just a trail cruiser

Ok so I did the compression test 155 psi on both cylinders. Fuel pressure was 39 and held through cranking. The old owner put a amazon cps in so I'm ordering a factory polaris one tomm.

 

I also just found that one of the rear light sockets was melted.

 

I think I'm going to order the factory cps today and start chasing wires. I've read to look above the skid plate.

 

Do you have spark on both plugs?

 

Rear socket is not unusual. Amazon has some smoke ones that have to B/U socket also.

Could the prv causing the crank but no start with weird popping

 

Oil pressure has been known to push lifters open. Oil pressure would be very high.

 

Usually the engine just free wheels with no compression when the lifters pump. You have to wait a few minutes then it will start and if you don't hit the gas it will continue to run until the oil warms enough so as to not pump the lifters. At idle these engines do not have enough oil pump to over pressure.

 

Right not its at the point of almost running but it won't stay running kinda sounds like valves are out of adjustment. I read the prv can hold the valves open enough but the compression was good so I'm lost

 

It acts like it's running a few seconds then dies out the puffs ever few cycles.even though the cps ohm'd out could it still be bad .its a amazon one

 

I'm at a loss atm. Any ideas? Anyone

 

Not likely a valve timing issue since they are gear driven. How fresh is the gas? Have you checked the sensor in the intake, It could be dirty and causing your issue. I have a known good crank sensor if you are near or I could just mail it to you instead of buying one and not needing it.

 

I'm in central Alabama. I thought about just ordering one anyway. The tps sensor needing cleaned or what other sensor.

 

I tested the one I have against the manual and it said good im just trying to rule out possible causes.
