We have the Bofang ones. Got the pair off Amazon for like $45. Already preprogrammed. We have the GMRS ones, Bought them for our son and daughter, each has a buggy. I have a Midland hardwired GMRS radio in my buggy. The hand helds work fine and can hear it over the engine. One keeps it in the door pocket and the other uses the cup holder.
The Bofang radio is one of the better handheld radio out there. I purchased a GMRS from rugged radio that is a radio that rugged radio pprograms mainly for off road racing not recommended for ATV/UTV use. Rugged radio was good enough to let me return my GMRS for one I can program it's 50 watts radio so when your riding with a group with a distance and in mountain regions. I intalled a 696 intercom unit with two head sets that allows upto 4 people in your 4 seater can listen and talk makes things so much better. Contact Rugged Radio or you dealer they sell kits for all UTV's.

Yeah like I said I just ended up spending 35$ on a set of baofeng radios lol. Nowhere near interested in the rugged stuff I will rarely use these things

As I understand it, the Rugged Radios are no than a Baofeng UV5R with a blue case and Rugged Radios frequencies programed into it. I believe that is what I have read. Correct my misinformation if I am wrong, also you would think they would have at least gone to the 9R since it is waterproof.

Do you have a gmrs license or did you say "fuck it"?

We have the Kenwood Nexedge handheld radio which works well enough with decent range but we couldn't hear much when we were driving on the trails.
So this last trip to the Hatfield McCoy trails last week we tried the Midland micromobile 2 way radio but it still wasn't powerful even on the high power channels , nor loud enough to hear much while on the trails.

I think whatever radio we settle on it's going to need more power along with headsets and an intercom so that we can hear both the radio com and each other.
Kind of getting tired of saying, "what did they say", "what did you say" while riding.

I picked up a cb speaker out of a wrecked truck. Going to try that mounted inside the roof between the seats. An try that plugged into my handheld. I don’t do headsets, i like to hear my surroundings and what’s coming at me. The radios i use beep when someone talks first, i can hear that then listen for what they are saying.

Let me know how that works out because the headset and intercom is a last resort.

If you can find an old Motorola bag phone, those external speakers are REALLY loud and work great for an external radio speaker.

Nice try Mr. FCC man!

I don't remember where I got it, or if it is available anymore, but when I farmed I had my pickup highband radio wired up so all the voice came through my pickup stereo speakers. If a person could find that module you could run all your voice through the stereo speakers. Mine would cancel out the music and when the Transmisson was done the music would start again.
