are all of the 08-11 rzr transmissions the same. May need a new tranny and don't know if they are all interchangeable or not? very difficult to shift lever with shifter cable off even with big channel locks. someone mentioned the detent ball and spring can be removed, haven't tried yet, but that is next. I also saw someone mention of an upgraded clutch shaft assembly in the tranny. could that be it, did popo have a problem and need to go to this upgrade? searching for any ideas. last time out could not get to L or Hi after going to reverse, had to drive in reverse back to camp. finally got to hi after working shift lever(very hard/tight) with big ass channel locks, sounds like something internal, but once in a gear, that gear works fine. Any ideas?

I waited until 2010 to buy a RZR thinking that after two years in production, all the bugs should be worked out. I guess at Polaris, that's backward thinking since my transmission went out and so many other early 2010's did as well.

They are different from year to year in small changes... They will interchange as long as you use the correct length coupler on the diff to transfer output shafts...

The 2008 is the tranny with the least notated problems...

The P R N L H indicator pigtail on the 08 and 09 are different. The 08 is a 6 wire with the reisistor pack and the 09 is only either 2 wire or 3 wire. You will need to change this out if you switch year models.

well I do feel for you also. I have put about 1400 miles on mine before I apparently am having an internal transmission issue. I have had no internal tranny issues until now. I have previously replaced a shifter cable, but that is an easy fix. This sounds like a whole lot more fun to make the rzr right again.

Same thing here. 1100 miles and no issues until the trans. went out at that time. The first thing I did was attempt to adjust the cable and finally I unhooked it completely and shifted it into H with pliers and at that point, I knew it was bad. I will say though that now that I have the rzr back, it does shift a bunch easier than it ever did. That leads me to think that this issue was always there and that was validated by the fact that Polaris replaced the transmission with a brand new unit after the local shop couldn't get the original one to work right after replacing a ton of internal parts. It's become really cold here now so we can't get out and try it out, but I'll be honest and say, I am apprehensive about getting too far from the truck/trailer now. We are and have always been easy on our rzr, but our riding takes us into areas that are remote and not easy to get out of if there is a break down. We'll be staying close now for awhile. I wish this weren't the case.

so was your rzr under warranty? If not, what did the local shop charge to work on it? did you still have to pay for the service if it still was not right?
I am trying to figure out it I should try to work on the tranny or not. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but never messed with a tranny. Doesn't look to complicated. But sometimes just not worth it. Did I see somewhere the brand new trannies were around $1600? have not seen any real quotes on fixing one. I know hard to quote without knowing what is internally broke, but the big question is when is it better just to put the additional money towards a brand new one, or are p.o.s. also? that is the question.

No, the quad was several months out of the 6 month period and I made the mistake of not buying an extended warranty. You can read the story of what happened in the other transmission links on this forum. After taking it to the local dealer here in Reno, they agreed to diagnose the problem ordered parts at several different times to attempt to fix the problem. After tearing it down and putting it back together several times, they determined that the trans was defective from the factory. They then finally got Polaris to provide a new transmission at no cost and then after replacing the defective original unit, they then charged us $800 for their labor. I think that since the unit was determined to be defective from Polaris, I should not have had to pay anything for labor, since I wasn't the cause of the issue in the first place. I could have changed the transmission myself. As a result, myself, my family and my friends will never buy anything from the local dealer here in Reno and if I buy another Polaris, it will be at another dealer and with an extended warranty. I just think it's good business practice to back the products you sell, the local dealer here in Reno didn't do that in my opinion. Polaris did on their end, but the dealer didn't. Hopefully, you have a dealer that is willing to work with you after they get your money in the first place.

yeah i have seen them on ebay for sale for less than 1000, supposedly in good shape, but why would they have taken it out if there wasn't a problem with it, what would it have been replaced with to want to take out a good working unit, unless it was pulled out of a wrecked one maybe?. Alot of work to replace and tranny not be right if used. If I would rebuild my own, lets say I have a gear broke or shaft or something similar, what kind of price is a part like that vs. me buying one used and hoping it is good. Does anyone know?
