Does anyone know if they got the new road over Cottonwood Pass completed? It sure didn't look like it would be done on time when we were there last July. We will be there this July. It would sure be nice if we didn't have to go through Gunnison again.

Road officially opens 21 June at the same time construction starts again. Expect limited traffic with follow me trucks and or flaggers all summer. You might save miles going over the pass, but be ready for long wait times and traffic taking just as long as going through Gunnison.
Basically, it's an ongoing project. Expect delays and weather will dictate progress. Might be finished this year as they work it from both sides toward the top.
It is typical Colorado transportation project. Will last at least 2 years longer than stated and be triple the budget. And then so many people will come up that even more closures will happen. :sad
Exactly right, Shane! I have a long history with Taylor Park. Our group started riding there in the late 80's. There's just a few of the original group left and I'm the oldest. It's hard to believe the numbers of people there now. The new road will only bring more people and, just as you say, result in more closures. Affluent people moving into summer cabins, alcohol, noise, and trash will result in more trails and camping being closed. We've loved riding there but it's time we moved on, sadly.
