Dispersed Camping With Generator CO / Crested Butte?

How 'evil' is it to use one of the small inverter generators overnight, while dispersed camping? How close is too close to other campers to use one?

We leave next Friday for our annual Colorado trip; we normally do hotels or VRBO rentals but I finally got my wife to tent camp, for a day, last year in Moab and she was ok with it, so this year I want to camp a few days but she's happiest if there's a box fan running. We tried my Ridgid 18v fan last year, which was fine for air flow but not loud enough for her.

We're hoping to find some BLM ground where we don't have anyone real close, but we also realize it's summer in Colorado and the areas we're going (Crested Butte, Taylor Park, etc. are popular.)

Anyone know any good spots around Crested Butte that might work for us? I don't want to be one of 'those couples' that ruins it for anyone else.

Our rig is a '18 Wrangler JLUR with a 5x10 Maxey trailer, so we're pretty small and nimble.

Thanks!

After dark in that area it is really quiet and sound carries extremely well up in the mountains.. I would say its your call ,but make sure you are as far as you can get from other campers. I do run my generator, shut it off around sundown if there are other campers in the area, just to be respectful.

At Lakeview quit hours are from 10-6, do to the fact I wake up between 3 n 4 every blasted day and have to have my coffee. I installed a 1500w inverter for my trip to Taylor Park at end of the month. Point being you might be able small inverter that can run off the car and recharge the car off the generator during the day.

Most people shut their generators down by 10 pm, but there is the occasional one running all night. The inverter type is definitely quite enough to accomplish that task.

Placing the generator on the back side of your vehicle. or placing something in front of it, helps in deflecting the noise in another direction.

Heck, our furnace in our toy hauler is running in most nights at that altitude, so you may see if the box fan is even necessary.

I think you'll be fine as long as you don't purposely set up right next to someone else and infringe on their comfort zone.
