Priating software is stealing. Companies spend thier money to develop a product with the expectation of a return on thier investment.
Agreed Captain Obvious.
I never stated it was legal.
And I don't encourage pirating software.
Then why make a that statement Captain Not So Obvious

Re: Drafting/Drawing software

We have Solidworks and Creo at work. I use Creo (previoulsy ProE). For simpler 2D things like layouts, AutoCAD seems to be quickest.

Re: Drafting/Drawing software

We use Solid Works for all 3D Auto CAD for stick or 2D.

Also look for older seats you can buy. Just do your home work. Done it many times and was able to upgrade cheaper than new seats.

If you have a kid in school buy a student seat usually free, $ 50 or heavily discounted. if you don't have a kid sign up for the cheapest school class and use your ID for student seat. Check you area as you maybe able to get a class in AC or SD and it may come with a seat or a student seat.

You can get 3 years of full AutoCAD 2d + 3d with a student (.edu) email address. Acad 3d is very similar to solid works.

Re: Drafting/Drawing software

My employer provides AutoDesk Inventor suite...
For home use, I have DraftSight. Easy to learn/use, has a ACAD 2D look and feel.. Free, but, you have to update annually online. Not a big deal.

Re: Drafting/Drawing software

You asked for a 2D program, so this may not be relevant.

Solidworks is a very popular and powerful 3D package. It is easy to drop out dxf files that can be sent to a waterjet or laser cutter. You can also output .stl files to send to a 3d printer.

There are several ways to get a home use license for Solidworks. EAA (Experimental Aircraft Assoication) members can get a free license. EAA membership is $40 per year. This is similar to a student license, where you can use it for personal use. You cannot transfer the files to a full license version.

There may be other organizations that have a similar arrangement. You can find more information by googling 'EAA Solidworks'.

If you are looking to do things commercially, this would not be a solution.
