Question Question for the dune riders

I just bought a 2019 rzr turbo Xp. My question is about tire size for sand paddles and what is recommended. I go to Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan and it is pretty soft sand. Looks like I see a lot of 28” tires and 30” tires, no 29” like what is stock. I bought an extra set of stock 14” wheels off of craigslist (awesome deal)so now I need the tires. I am leaning toward the 28s so I don’t rob power and have to reclutch. I have been to the dunes my whole life with jeeps, I also owned a old can Am maverick with stock tires which did well, but I want to get the right set up and start going more often.

What is everyone’s recommendations? What tire brand, etc. What size? Also do I really need the front tires?

Thanks

Re: Question for the dune riders

Iv got 30 inch pro armors. Turbo rzr handles them well. They are aggressive and heavier. No belt issues. Did a tune and clutch kit before last trip. Definitely get some aggressive ones. My buddy has sand strippers. They do well to.

I just replaced 29" sand slingers with the sandsport sxs 30". I really like them so far. I have a bikeman clutch kit

So did you feel you needed a clutch kit because of a 30 inch tires? Do you feel a 30 inch tires has more traction then the 29 inch? Appreciate your help.

I ran 28’” on my 16 turbo. They were fine. Picked up a 17 xpt. The tires seemed to small. Went to a 30” and it seems like I have more usable power. Think like a drag car with big tires. AA stage three and clutched now, I have no issues getting around SL.

Re: Question for the dune riders

The only 28 that I think works well with the turbos is the STU Blaster with a #2 cut. The others are either super heavy or not enough paddle and you'll be over revving all the time. The next would be the 30" GMZ strippers. I've had great luck with those on both of my XPT this year at Silverlake. They are big enough to hook but not so big that they rob a lot of power, or over stress the clutches and belts. You'll get a ton of opinions on this topic.

Thanks Magnum1. That makes complete since, now I’m looking at 30s. I will look into the GMZ tires. Do you know where the best place is to buy?

Just checking, 10 or 14 paddles better for stock clutching? Thanks

I personally feel a clutch kit is something a person should do regardless of tires, even on the stock bighorns you'll see an improvement in performance and how the clutches shift with a clutch kit, just my .02

Re: Question for the dune riders

I ordered mine through ATV Galaxy, at the time they had them in stock and had the lowest price on 2 sets mounted on DWT Sector wheels. I went with the 14 paddle. I do agree with Kevin on the clutch kit too. Huge difference all the way around after installing the AA S3 clutch kit.

Re: Question for the dune riders

Personally I wouldn't waste my money on paddles, I have 1500+ dune miles on my xpt and never felt like I needed more tire. If you feel like you have to have them talk to Scott @ Duneland at the entrance of the dunes, he knows what tire works there.

Duneland lol ya Scott talked me into stu blackbirds. With a stage 3 tune and clutch kit those things were stupid heavy. Sold them and got 32 inch sand craft 12 paddle light as a feather feel great. Duneland is not all it’s cracked up to be but they will take your money. Good luck finding Scott he’s never there.
