It sounds a little throatier but not very much
I would do it again on my next ride
It's not difficult. Other than needing a welder.
Make sure you mark the elbow before cutting it off.
If you want to take the time just grind on the weld instead of cutting. The elbow is inserted into the muffler and just makes it easier to weld back on
What he said. If one has welding ability then its a very easy project. My main concern was from cold start and idling to operating temp I noticed my head pipe was cherry red. After the delete it doesn’t get this hot just from idle. Obviously, riding it will get hot but I’ve also noticed less coolant temps too. It helped is all I can conclude
If we're talking about a factory-installed catalytic converter, isn't that illegal to remove? Not to mention it converts carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide and removes other pollutants from the exhaust? I'm no SUWA tree-hugger, but trees are part of what we enjoy on our rides, and excess pollution kills them.
YES. Although none of my other toys came with cats. If there were hundreds of thousands of us driving these every day to commute then I’d probably advocate we leave it in, but there’s not. I ride mine twice a month at most for maybe 5 to 10 hours. I don’t think the lack of cat is going to hurt us.
Most people don’t realize it, but believe it or not the industrial meat farming industry is an enormous polluter doing far more harm than not running a CAT ever could even dream of doing. Want to save the environment? Stop eating meat every day.
Not to mention those semis you see traveling day and night don’t run CATs either. Even industrial equipment isn’t mandated to run CATs. Its pretty much just us down here on the bottom, making up just a fraction of the pollution that are subject to these laws.
So, in short, yes it’s illegal, but there are much much bigger threats to our environment than removing the CAT on your SxS.
Hey, I’m over here eating turkey and chicken daily, and I’m not saying that we need to outlaw cows, but it’s a fact that the expanding population cannot consume beef at this rate forever, so just take it for face value.
That said I AM active on smokingmeatforums.com! Heck it’s one of my favorite things to do. You east coasters can thank the west for bringing you brisket BTW, when you can get your hands on some for $2 a lb!
If you buy an aftermarket exhaust system I don’t think they have Cats in them, I think it’s more to get lower emissions from the Stock system so the factory’s can pass the CARB tests and have a 50 state legal machine.
Just as a heads up to anyone considering the delete, please be extra careful when backing of the nuts that hold the muffler to the pipe. The pressed in bolts get super heated and cooled over and over again, which really changes the metal. Many people have them shear off or strip when removing.
I'd soak the nuts over night in anti-seize before backing them off BY HAND. If you put an impact on them you increase the chance of a problem.
Other than that, it's a super easy project that just requires a nice weld after you're done.
2 single pound beef Wellington’s - a fillet mignon coated in duxelles, wrapped in prosciutto, coated in a bit of brillat savarin, wrapped in pastry dough.
One of the best things you’ll ever get to taste.
And tomorrow, against all rules, I’m smoking a tri tip.
Every time I see the title to this thread I think "how did you get a cat in your muffler?" even though I knew the OP was referring to a catalytic converter.
Denver hijacked this one. Knew this morning the cans of worms would be wide opened. Worms are crawling everywhere. So the OP’s post was about what?!?!? Geez guys.
