Longer trailing arms ( extended wheel base)

I was reading about the HCR long travel kit and I like that it adds 2" of wheelbase in the rear. I would like to know how this is obtained. Are they just making longer trailing arms or are the modifying the radius rod mounting in order to keep the radius rods straight? If someone were to build a set of trailing arms that were 2" longer, but kept the radius rod mounting at the frame in the stock location ( and had a heim joint at the hub) would there be any binding? Very interested in getting a couple extra inches of wheelbase in the rear.

Subscribed. I would love to have some more info on this as well. ORB built some high clearance "+2 trailing arms" but they are no longer on their site

Re: Longer trailing arms ( extended wheel base)

just use high mis heims and im sure it would work. just mock it up and cycle it. I don't know about axle problems though. it would be hard to notice only 2 inches longer

Re: Longer trailing arms ( extended wheel base)

As I thought about, you would have to use heims at both end of the radius rod (hopefully there would be no interference with the frame or hub) if you didn't offset the mounting location at the frame. I am not sure about the axles either. I have 1.5" forward a-arms and have had ZERO axles issues with the added length. I can see a great improvement on the 800s when adding 1.5 front and 1.5 rears (3" total) over the stock length. I would assume one would see the same benefits from a 900 that was also 3-3.5" longer. I may toy with the idea more. Just wasnt sure exactly how HCR obtained their added wheel base.

Re: Longer trailing arms ( extended wheel base)

post from the past, but did anybody ever add length to trailing arms? shock location would have to change and heims are needed on radius rods, but just curious why no one ever did this.

Not sure what ever became of these or if they are still available but they are no longer listed on their website.

Re: Longer trailing arms ( extended wheel base)

If your still looking for the answer to the question they do move the wheel back. When I got the kit I ordered the box radius arms.

The frame side of radius are a bushing set up like the front a arms and the wheel side has heims

Uses stock location on the frame side.
Donít like the boxed set up with the bushing in frame side because when bolting the trailing arm back on I always have to pry the radius arm back to get it in the knuckle

Re: Longer trailing arms ( extended wheel base)

I have some swingarm gussets to weld in soon and have been contemplating adding 1-2" to the length. This does not seem that common so I'm wondering about the axles. Who has added inches in the rear....any axle bind? Thank you for any help on this.

Re: Longer trailing arms ( extended wheel base)

I havenít had any issues with axle bind at all. I did do the 570 upgrade on the rear axles to help in strength
