2012 Hiccups at idle / stalls out / backfires

I just got this machine and ever since I got it its had a problem with erratic idling and stalling

The engine is all stock
It starts easily with no throttle needed
This happens when the engine is cold or hot
Throttle response is good cold or hot

So far I have replaced:

Airfilter
Spark plugs
Fuel pump
Fuel Filter
In tank fuel pressure regulator
Completely drained tank and replaced old gas with fresh premium gas

Also I took off the air box and inspected the throttle body boots between the TB's and cylinders,
The TB's weren't on completely so I loosened the boots up and pushed them on all the way.
Tightened everything back up and everything is clean and tight from the cylinders back to the air box.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I've drove it around about 10 miles and it runs good otherwise, pretty fast.
I haven't pushed it over 60 mph yet because the rollers on my secondary are flat spotted (Thats another story, I cannot get the secondary off this thing)

Bump... anyone have any ideas?
Maybe TPS issue?

How do I check/test/set the TPS Voltage?

Re: 2012 Hiccups at idle / stalls out

Sounds like an XP 900, mine always behaved similar, had the same little stumble, would randomly die at idle, even after i replaced the engine, still did it, I never really fixed it, just drove it, you could try the Idle Air Control Valve, or another possibility is that the primary clutch is not fully disengaging and slightly grabbing the belt, at one point with mine one of the weights had worn a goofy groove into the clutch body, and it wouldn't allow it to fully disengage, mine was bad enough that it made it act like a direct drive, so you could never stop unless the transmission was in neutral, obviously yours isn't that bad, but it may be developing, something to look at at least.

As for getting that secondary off...

just make sure to use a hammer that won't destroy the bolt (brass, a very solid plastic deadblow, etc..)

and when you put that secondary back on, put a little bit of anti-seize on the transmission input shaft, never have that problem again

Thank you RWB713!
I will inspect the primary, and hopefully get the secondary off, lol.

Where is the IAC located?

Itís on the crossbar above the throttle body, under the bed cover, has 3 hoses that come out of it, 1 from the air box, 2 into the throttle body

I bought a 2lb brass hammer and this trick worked perfectly! Thank you for posting this video!

No, not yet. Put 200 miles on it last weekend, other than the idling issue it ran good, just not quite getting the top speed.. maxing out at 65mph / hitting rev limiter. Trying to figure that issue out now, lol.

Also if you let it coast to a complete stop, it sorta surges to a stop. Feels like the belt is gripping and not gripping once for every rotation of the belt.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: 2012 Hiccups at idle / stalls out

How'd the primary look? or have you looked at it yet?

I don't remember exactly what the top speed was, but it was around there if I remember right... might have been 75-80 at most... but are you actually hitting the rev limiter? should be either 8300 or 8800 RPM depending on which computer Polaris decided to put in it (that's a whole nother topic),

I haven't looked at it yet,
I will be looking at it shortly.

Also I didn't know there was a RPM readout option on the speedo, I'll test it and see what kind of RPM's I'm getting. It sure sounds like a rev limiter.

Thanks!

Re: 2012 Hiccups at idle / stalls out

Well I took a peek at the primary, everything looks normal from what I could see. No glaring problems that I noticed.

As for the rev limiter problem, I was seeing/hearing the rev limiter type sound at different RPMs
Sometimes 8600, sometimes 8400, 8500, etc. I only tested it on a few runs and didn't really look into it any further. I wanted to change the belt and clean the clutch faces

After cleaning the clutches and putting on a new belt, I noticed this belt seems to be riding a little too high in the secondary? At least on my 2014 skidoo, we normally adjust the belt so the cogs of the belt are just above the secondary... Is this normal ride height for the belt in the secondary for a 900 rzr xp?

Also I didn't see any way to adjust the ride height of the belt in the secondary? Is it not adjustable?

Thank you Sir,
I checked that, I was hoping it would be that easy but no dice. Appreciate your input though!

Re: 2012 Hiccups at idle / stalls out

My 900Xp also dies occasionally when coming to a stop. Starts back up good. My XP is also hard to get in gear, no grinding just hard to move shifter. Have not removed belt cover and observed if belt stops rotation yet.

Had missing out bad running problem not just at idle that was caused by connector to throttle body not being fully snapped into position.
