is 3100 miles a lot for a turbo 4 seater?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my 2015 RZR 4 900 to Turbo 4 seater.

I found a used 2017 that is bone stock other than a roof and windshield. Its looks pretty clean, but has 3100 miles on it.

The owner says fluids and belt have been changed every 1,000 miles and have been accumulated over dirt roads and michigan trails with his kids.

Just curious as to how many miles you guys are putting on your machines before running into major issues. He is asking $18K for the car.

I have 2,000 miles on my 900. It still runs like new, but its not putting out 168hp. I'm sure high HP rigs take a much bigger beating.

Thanks,

Steve

I definitely wouldn't pay $18k for a 17 with 3100 miles at all, be better off just to go new at that point.

It's hit or miss how much the mileage matters, or what kind of condition the machine is in. I'm sitting at 2000 on my 18, and haven't had any issues that weren't self inflicted. I change all my fluids and air filter about every 500 miles in comparison. I do think it is about time for some wheel bearings, ball joints, and my steering rack is starting to show signs of where as well, but I run 32's and ride a bit harder than that guy it sounds like, and I have tons of aftermarket work in my machine as well.

Where are you located and what about just buying new? Polaris has some pretty good discounts and rebates right now and the car you're looking at is stock anyways. I've found a lot of "local" dealers on the East Coast that are "near" Abernathy's will compete with their price. I paid $19k ($17,900 + tax) for my xpt4 OTD back at the end of May at a local dealer. Same price as Abernathy and didn't have to drive 9hrs one way to get it. West Coast is probably not so lucky. Just a thought.

I'm located in South Eastern Michigan. I guess I should reach out to a few dealers and see what they are offering.

I could potentially buy new or even get the guy on the 2017 to lower his price significantly. Any idea what would be a fair price on the 2017?

Thanks!

3100 miles is not a lot of miles. That motor should be good for a heck of a lot more miles as long as it is maintained/serviced. The price might be on the higher side as new ones are not much more.

Definitely investigate buying new from your dealer. The demand for turbos is rising fast, even on the East Coast, and the seller probably knows this. In fact, many turbos on my local craigslist are selling for at, or even more than the price of a new bone stock one(depending on accessories).

Try Honda East in Maumee,Ohio. They were 2-3k lower than anybody around here. I tried all around the Detroit metro area.

It all depends on the life itís lived. Some take delivery and 10 minutes later they totally submerge in water and somehow laugh about it. Then come on here and bitch and moan because it wonít start, clutch issues etc. Hello!!!! Polaris, I believe does sell jet skiís. Amazes me. I personally would not consider a used SxS unless I knew the previous owner of it and their habits of owning it. Just my 2 cents

Same here. I don't want to inherit somebody else's problems and there's too much potential for abuse in a SxS.

To put that aside and answer the original question, a lot depends upon how those 3100 miles were accumulated. 3100 miles is going to mean wear and tear on components no matter how you look at it, but the RZR could be in good condition or it could be thrashed. If it was a real killer deal I might be more inclined to poke around, crawl underneath it, etc. and take a good hard look at it to decide if I wanted to throw the dice - but $18K for a basically bone stock 2017 XPT4 doesn't come anywhere near "killer deal" enough to make me even consider it. Honestly, I doubt I'd give it a sniff even at $15K, but maybe that's just me.

If I was already in the game for $18K, I'd rather sweeten the pot a bit and buy new. Maybe even look for dealers who have a leftover previous year model at a good price. I bought my '17 XP1K in December of '17 and saved a decent chunk of change over an '18 model.

Bright Powersports is showing both colors at $4000 off list. Also check Honda East.

Way too much money for the '17 with that mileage. By the time you add in most likely wheel bearings and other wear items, you are at the price of new.

Re: is 3100 miles a lot for a turbo 4 seater?

I've got 3K on my 15. I drive it really hard. If you are mechanical and can keep up on the maintenance it might be okay. I would come with a jack and see what kind of play you are getting. Most of the time it's inexpensive wear items that need replaced every thousand or two depending on the beating it took. Just jack it up and see what you find out. I do this every few rides. Amazing what comes loose and you can't tell till you get weight off the wheels. If he really had kids with him most of the time I bet it's not that bad. I would offer lower though just because you will have some maintenance. Or spend several thousand more on a new one then several thousand more on accessories. Check all the fluid too, if the oil, gearbox etc fluids look new that's good. You can also grease wheel bearings. I have a backup set but have not needed them because I grease mine every 500 miles. I'll get 6k out of my machine before I get another one. It just takes upkeep. I've seen some with over 5k that are still in great shape. Heard of one with almost 19K from a guide. Upkeep....
