30" or 32"?

'17 XP4T. I need a set of desert / hard pack tires. I'll probably have to do 14" wheels due to the lack of 5/2 15" wheels on the market. I know there are some, but none I really like. So now I have to decide on 30 or 32". I like the bigger size but don't really want to have to do a clutch kit right now. And the 30s are more in line with the stock 29s. Have you guys noticed any drop in performance or premature belt wear with a 32? Any manufacturers make a 31"? Will I regret not going bigger? What are your experiences? Thanks!

Re: 30" or 32"?

There are a lot of 15" rims available. You will regret smaller tires and end up spending more to go bigger. I run 33x10.5x15 BFG KM2s on ITP 15" Beadlocks. The stock clutch works fine and no problem roasting the 33s

Re: 30" or 32"?

Check out the 32" Maxxis Liberty. They only weigh 35 lbs according to Maxxis so it will help with the not hurting your power and minimizing the need to adjust your clutching. 32s do rub though. ITP just recnetly released the Ultracross R-Spec in a 31/9.5 so that is another option if rubbing bothers you.

Re: 30" or 32"?

I ride in northern Nevada on mostly hard packed trails and love my 32" Tensors on 15" Fuel wheels. Discount tire gave me a fair price. Click image for larger version

Re: 30" or 32"?

I have 33s and trimmed the lower inner corner of the fender and rubbing is very minimal. Only rubs a tiny bit on the roughest rocky terrain under full compression.

Re: 30" or 32"?

Are these on 5/2 or 4/3 offsets? I'm leaning towards 5/2 fronts and 4/3 rears to keep the same width front to back and minimize the scrub. I'm worried that a big 32 will rub too much with the smaller offset up front.

Re: 30" or 32"?

Sorry, I don't actually know the offset. I'm happy with the look and the ride. I haven't experienced any rubbing. PM and I'll shoot you a video of the trails I ride at an average speed of 40 mph.

What model are your wheels? And where did you get them? I like the looks and would like to find more options for 15" 5/2. Thanks!

ITP Black OPs single beadlocks, I got them directly from ITP last year at ROTR.

Re: 30" or 32"?

I just put 32" arisuns on my 16 xpt4. Method wheels 5+2 all around and they do not rub at all. If I punch it on pavement I will just spin the back tires.

Re: 30" or 32"?

I ran 32" Mongrels, then went to 30" Tensors, and really regretted it! I felt no difference in clutching with either set. I'm now back on 10 ply 32" Mongrels. I also prefer the round profile much better then the Tensors square profile. I also recommend 4/3 offset. It handles much better then the stock offset. Yes I read the Shock Therapy write up. In theory they are right. But in the desert, wider is better.
