Timing chain broke

I cranked my rzr and heard a small pop. Took the top cover off, and noticed the timing chain snapped in half. How do I replace it without taking the motor apart.

I talked to Polaris on Saturday and the mechanic said they do it all the time.

Did you ask him how he did it?

Re: Timing chain broke

id love to know also, you remove the stator cover, fly wheel and you can see the bottom gear on the crank, there is a case casting at the bottom of the gear that does not allow the chain to come off the gear unless the crank is picked up. iv tried, and have had to go by the manual on this one. maybe im missing something so hopefully someone else can chime in.

Re: Timing chain broke

He said to drop the oil pan, and loosen the bolts hanging the crank down about 4 to 5 complete turns and it will allow room for the chain.

Re: Timing chain broke

you can see here where timing chain area is. How would you reseal case correctly if you just loosen up enough to get chain past? Also you have to clean case halves once you break seal loose, once engine is out of car it is actually very easy job.

Re: Timing chain broke

Wouldn't you want to inspect the Top End for debris and any issues with the 2 cam sprockets?

Re: Timing chain broke

Polaris mechanic said they do this all the time?
Yours is the first for me.
I've heard of them jumping teeth with the old style hydraulic tensioner but not breaking
What year is your 1k?
OEM tensioner?
