Drive belt info?

So I was looking for belts and found a Gates belt 21G4140 I was wondering if this is the correct belt for a 2014 XP 1000. Itís a little confusing with all the different belts and numbers out there and all the updated versions. Thanks for any help on breaking this down for me

First recommendation for belts would be Hunterworks.

If you really want a Gates Belt:

Re: Drive belt info?

Just break down and get the oem belt. Youíll get the best results from it. Speaking from experience with gates and other aftermarket belts.

Re: Drive belt info?

As far as I can tell yes it will fit. But from my experience I wonít ever use a cheap belt for a spare ever. Iíve broken 3 total belts between my rZr and ranger and when they broke it took out the belt seal and screwed up the covers. I mean if you use it as a spare put it on and go straight to the trailer and get it off. Itís not worth 200 plus dollars of parts that might break if it shreds.

Just wondering, would you consider a Gates belt cheap? It seems as most people go Polaris or Gates for a belt

That gates belt you gave a part number from yes is the cheapest gates belt they offer. I have tried hunterworks, gates carbon and oem. Oem is what I will stick with after those companies.

While technically correct the G part means it is the cheaper of their two belts with the C being the better of the two since it is carbon fiber

That belt is a 11-14 XP 900 belt and a 14 XP 1000 belt part number, it would be ok as a back up and as mentioned, if you have to install in the field I would remove it and install a better one when you can.

Unfortunately we have had less than 5 failures with our belts and nearly 1500 sold and one of the guys commenting is one of the failures so his opinion won't be a good one for us and I get that.

Every belt has it's application and some do better at some activities than others and that sometimes is the trick to figure out.

As a matter of fact, that belt you have might actually perform and last if you only ran high speed for long periods of time due to the fact it is thin and dissipates heat well.

All belts by anyone fail at times, that is one thing we can count on.

Now that we have around 1500 belts out, a handful of folks with over 1000 miles and one I know over 1500 miles on our belts my opinion is pretty simple.

As good as OEM or better depending on the application, less money and has a warranty while limited is still a warranty where the OEM has none.

If you want to argue with that then you just want to argue!! LOL

Re: Drive belt info?

BTW, I am a victim of my own belt and don't mind telling it, I blew the hell outta one in 5 min, had a thick belt on, had a EBS helix I added to my secondary then got on a race track and got some serious air, engine returned nearly to idle being the air so long, EBS notch was engaged when I hit the ground, belt was loose due to what was going on inside at the time, landed and shoved it into the exhaust duct and ripped it to pieces, looked like the piece above. What did I do? Put one of our std belts on and ran the total crap out of it the rest of the day and moved on.

of course the issue was being on a track with a thick belt made for slow tech technical riding and having a engine braking helix on made for the same and then doing something neither worked for.

Application and understanding of clutching is required.
