Banging under front end Please help!

Hey there, I have a 2017 1000xp, that has a banging noise under the front end sometimes driverside sometimes passenger side. Sounds like you are throwing up a rock or someone is hitting it with a hammer. Shock bolts are tight, front drive shaft is tight, all a arm bushings are good and a arms are tight. this noise happens driving down a bumpy trail but the suspinsion is not fully extended, ball joints and bearings all good. Rzr drives fine it just sounds like a piece of crap, completely irritating. Please help!!

Carrier bearing. Even though it's new they can still go out. Steering rack as suggested above also . Have you checked your tie rod ends?

Re: Banging under front end Please help!

Mine does the same thing under suspension droop. I can really feel it in the steering wheel and with my feet. Everything is tight, as I've had it apart a few times. There's less than 200 miles on it. Dealer couldn't find anything either. I'm thinking about putting a camera under there.

Re: Banging under front end Please help!

Had this on a 14XP. Spring of last year. Steering wheel felt like a homemade go kart when suspension dropped. Pulled on it. And felt like a hammer underneath it.

At the same time I decided to do a full Shock modification.
When I pulled the right front Shock off I found the top bolt loose. Dealer had just put A arm bushings in it week the before.
Go figure!!
When the shocks came back and I reinstalled them. Bang was gone.
So was it bad Shock? Or a loose shock bolt? Guy that did rebuild didnít see anything off in the shock.

Check those shock bolts. Have to have suspension hanging or right at neutral to feel loose bolt. Or just put a couple wrenchís on them.

Re: Banging under front end Please help!

The front shocks bottom out with a nasty thud with the 2017 front suspension. My Gold LE does it at all speeds when either side drops out. Other than adding limiting straps, I donít think itís easy to get rid of...

Re: Banging under front end Please help!

I know you said the A arm bushings are good , my 14 had a bad bushing (sounded exactly as your description) and took me a bit to figure out which one. Double check those since they are an easy fix. When jacked up are the tires loose ( slop )? If they are , one by one check every joint and bushing for slop.

Re: Banging under front end Please help!

When my front diff went out, it felt like somebody was knocking on my floorboards. I would start there... If the shocks do bottom out, you will feel the same thud. Limiting straps can fix that.

Re: Banging under front end Please help!

I had a similar "hammer banging" underneath my 2015 Highlifter. My driver's side rear shock had leaked all of it's oil out. I had the shock rebuilt for about $100, and now it's sounds totally fine.

Banging under front end Please help!

If all is tight and no noticeable shiny wear, I might think that @ suspension travel, there is something loose. Iíd check all bolts with the suspension to make sure they have washers and are tight to spec.

Maybe lift the front end up in the air with a frame jack and look to see whatís going on under there as the suspension travels. Not being a super consistent noise to me sounds like loose something.

Also if a bushing broke off you will hear metal bang against metal. There is prolly some play in there thatís not being corrected.

Re: Banging under front end Please help!

Mine will randomly do the same. Sometimes on flat sometimes on bumps. Haven't tracked it down yet.

Resurrecting this, I have this up front too on a 2019 xp 1000 but I installed shock therapy stage 4 kit. Its very random, mine sounds like its on the drivers side most of the time when i hit certain bumps. I also removed my front sway bar, any ideas?
