random shut down

I was riding yesterday, my 17 rock and trails 1000. I stopped to grab a drink, and all of a sudden it stalled. I tried restarting and it would start and shut right back off. I let it sit for about 1 minute, and it started up and ran fine the rest of the day. Any ideas of what could have caused this?

Re: random shut down

I've had the same issue that ended up being a loose battery cable, not sure if that's the case for you, but an easy check just incase!

Re: random shut down

Mine does the same thing I repaced the throttle position sensor and it fixed it for approx 150 mi then started to do it again.I repaced the fuel pump and it ran fine for approx 900 mi and is doing the same thing. Here are some things to ck that have fixed same problem on other machines (but did not help on mine). Start and let idle, wiggle the TPS and the two injector connections if it dies replace connections.Remove gas cap and suck on fuel vent to make sure vent ck valve is working properly (you should be able to suck but not blow)and before you plug the hose back on the fitting in the frame remove the fitting and blow thru it making sure no critters made a nest in it,vent is located upper left rear frame rail above the middle of the clutch cover. The vent was stuck on a friends TRE and the suck trick freed up the ck valve and his runs fine now but when his died there was preasure in the tank when the cap was removed, next time yours dies ck that also. I replaced my fuel pump relay but have not ride tested it yet, will let you know if it works. Mine always does it between 23 and 32 miles another I ride with does it usally after 50 miles.
Post if you find a fix.

Only code was for the EPS.
I filled the tank earlier in the ride, from a reputable fuel station. After it restarted, it had no issues for the next 5 or so miles of trails to get home. I was also able to accelerate without power loss. It was only shut off for about a minutes before it restarted, so it didnt really cool down at all.

Re: random shut down

Update, fuel pump relay did not help and I also tried a swapping out the EFI relay and still have the problem. I rode 22.1 miles and it shut down 8 times with approx 2-4 min before it would start again. The next day 24.9 miles and I lost count how many times it stopped, took 3 hours to travel 12 miles. I was able to fog a little starting fluid in the air intake as it was stalling and it helped so it is fuel related. Going to replace the fuel pump again.

Re: random shut down

Iím starting to have the same problem. I can go fine for about 40 miles then out of the blue it just bogs down like it ran out of gas. Sometimes it will struggle for a minute then start to run fine again. Other times it will stall completely out. I can wait a minute or two and restart it and not has an issue for the rest of the day. Yet problem returns another day after ~40 miles into a ride. I donít get any codes. Everything looks fine when it happens. I always top the fuel off before each ride so know I have fuel.

Re: random shut down

I bought a Qantum fuel pump and installed it and had lean code within 2 miles,(ends up I had the orings in the wrong spot as there were no instruction with the pump). I installing the quantum fuel filter on the OEM pump and it has ran for over 400 miles without a issue. Buy the quantum fuel filters they are screen type not mat like the originals.I think the mat pores maybe closed up enough from fine debris that the pump could not maintain pressure after the pump get hot from being on so much trying to keep up, (mine was always between 20 and thirty miles).

Re: random shut down

Thanks for the update BKB, many times members write problems but do not reply what fixes them for the rest of us if we run into the same thing. Safe travels, the TRE is awesome machine!
