Wire cubes to high beams

I'm wanting to wire my cube lights into the high beams. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to do that?

Re: Wire cubes to high beams

find the wire on the back of the headlight switch that is hot with the high beams on. run from that pin to a relay (pin 86 on a 4 post relay iirc). this will act as the trigger and will not draw any extra voltage (which could overload the wire). run power from the battery to the relay (pin 87). run your load (cubes to the relay (pin 30). finally, run pin 85 to ground.

now the relay will sense power on pin 86 when you tun on the high beams. when it senses power it will close the connection between pin 87 to 30, supplying power to the cubes. turn off high beans and the switch opens

not sure of the power draw of your cubes, but a 12v, 30/40amp relay should work fine. you can also get a 5 pin relay, and just not use the center pin (pin 87a)

Re: Wire cubes to high beams

The headlight switch will have 4 wires. Power in. Low beam. High beam. And ground. (For the light in the switch) Tap into the wire for the high beam and attach it to the control terminal of a relay. The relay will need a ground wire. Run a wire (with a fuse) from power to the relay. Then a wire from relay to cubes and another one from cubes to ground. The relay is needed so as to not run too much current through the headlight switch.
