Re: when to use HI and LO gear

You'll get lots of opinions on this but I've learned with mine that any climbing is lo gear only unless you're riding dunes or high speed runs. It saves on belt wear and you can, on a steep hill stall out if it's a long hill and you're loaded two up. Shortly after that you can smell burning rubber and that never turns out good.

2009 standard rzr, TSI Turbo with CP pistons, P/W crank by Crankworks, Team/MCX wide ratio clutch,+5 lt kit with 1.5"offset from SATV, Polaris hardtop, Fox Podiums, Promark 3000XT winch, RZR4 exhaust, UMP intake, ProArmor doors, Progressive springs from Makin trax, DFR fuel controller, Polaris "S" flares, HID 35 W headlight conversion.
2013 XP4 Walker Evans edition, PA doors, axle armor on all 4. Needle shock conversion, PRP seats, Double Down intake kit.
With enough thrust, pigs fly just fine!

Re: when to use HI and LO gear

I use low for 15 mph and less, then high for any riding above 15 mph. I've had good luck with my belts since I started this.

Re: when to use HI and LO gear

As a rule of thumb, anytime I use 4wd, it's in low gear. Otherwise mine always stays hi gear.

Re: when to use HI and LO gear

I never use low gear running the trails. The only time I use low is if I come to a trouble spot or climbing on the rocks... I just wish you could switch from low to high while moving.

Re: when to use HI and LO gear

I only use low when climbing or crawling like Jerr said. Ive burnt two belts that could have been avoided 100% by a pull of the shifter.

Re: when to use HI and LO gear

the threshold is about 15mph for me. some places i ride its high most of the time but some places i ride its too much trouble to stop and shift so i just stay in low.

Re: when to use HI and LO gear

I think these are all really good suggestions. We try to use low as much as possible when we are in technical sections or doing any climbing.

agree with whats is said above, also use low on steep declines to get more effective engine braking

Keep it in high, keep the gas pedal on the floor, you never have to worry about it.

Re: when to use HI and LO gear

In the bush, low if it's twisty and full of hills. High if it's wide open. Haven't smelled a burnt belt in almost 2000 soooooooo seems to working!

If I have to give it more than 1/3-1/2 throttle to get it moving, low range.

14 scrambler 1000, 28 mega mayhems on 14" sixr wheels, qsc clutched on hardest setting
14 Ace, 26" pro comp extremes on 14" msa m17 elixer wheels, total blast!
And a 600rwhp 03 powerstroke on 37" mud grapplers to haul it all
13 fx4 a/p on 35"grapplers, 6.2l
