Rattling sound coming from driveshaft

There is this loud rattling sound coming from my driveshaft around my CB. The drive shaft wobbles a little bit but it does not feel like my CB is going out. It is more like a metal on metal sound. Has anyone else had this problem? And what did you do to fix it?

Re: Rattling sound coming from driveshaft

Check your belt. I had a rattling noise coming from the same area, sounded like a bunch of ball bearings rolling around somewhere. Turns out it was my belt slapping around the cover, right before it exploded. Put a new belt on and all was good. This may not be your issue, but easy to check.

Strongly Agree. Check the belt first. Make sure you roll it around so you can see the whole thing.

I had the exact same noise and it took me awhile to figure it out, on mine it was the rear yoke on front propshaft and the yoke on rear shaft where it goes onto the trans, the yokes get loose on the splines over time and they will rattle at higher speeds, a temporary fix is grease the yokes, i installed a new yoke on the rear propshaft where it slides onto transmission and yoke on front ahaft where it slides onto rear shaft and noise is gone and has been gone for about 800 miles now

Exactly this. I thought my noise was the belt slapping the cover and I believe that was part of it, but after a recent ride realized the noise was still there. I checked the rear yoke at the spline and there is a ton of sloppy play, like a LOT and its noisy.. I'm pulling my driveshaft this weekend and got 3 new ujoints and a new carrier barring. Just waiting on the new yokes that will hopefully be here Monday. I figured if I'm going through all the trouble pulling the shaft, might as well put all new components in there and be done with it.

I shoulda went this route. Just replaced everything but the actual shafts for almost as much. And... noise is still there! So, not in the drive line, not the belt, and not the axles.. The only thing left is the tranny, and the noise is the same rattling sound as if it were to slip out of gear while in motion. Hopefully that's not the op's issue, but I'm convinced my sound is the transmission..
