Re: wheel bearings

Yup, I just did my bearings last night with Lucas marine grease... the sooner you grease them the longer they will last

Re: wheel bearings

When installing a new OEM wheel bearing last year, I broke the outer seal I guess you'd call it. I was shocked on how little grease there was inside. The grease was blue in color.

Re: wheel bearings

New bearing in the left rear took 14 pumps! I greased it before installing so I could see and feel the difference. The other 3 good bearings took 20+. I also use Lucas Marine grease. About 2500 miles of moderate riding. No rock crawling or serious mud/sand. First time I did them. What intervals is everyone doing them at? I figured about every 6 months, depending on my rides.

I'd say semi-annual to start and adjust. I know one 570 owner does his about every two weeks, but he drives his like it's a submarine... Swimming in Texas rivers and lakes...

Ok, you guys have convinced me to grease my wheel bearings. What's the hot ticket to doing it quick and effectively? Wheel bearing greasers? Any tips/secrets?

Worse thing is to over grease them- as you will disturb the dust seal-
It's so easy these day's with the new style greaser -

So how do you know when to stop? When the seal starts to bulge a little or something? Just wondering.

Re: wheel bearings

When the water/mud stops bleeding past the seal and pumping gets a bit harder. Before grease starts squeezing out.
